Kate S | 6459 comments With 75 tasks, we did not intend to set up a planning thread for summer. But are there books you're most excited about getting to read? Tell us your top 5 and which squares you're using to get to them.

Elizabeth (Alaska) I think these are all Jumbo. As a slow reader, I will be glad to get 5 bingos and that might be a stretch.

B7 - Best Books - have had this penciled in off and off in previous seasons
The Year of the French by Thomas Flanagan

G50 - Author born in the 50s - I read Doc a couple of seasons back and want to read the follow-up
Epitaph by Mary Doria Russell

B10 - Author born in the 10s - I have been neglecting Anthony Trollope and am thrilled to have one penned in this season, which will also fill a spot in my 19th Century challenge
John Caldigate by Anthony Trollope

G60 - Book pub'd in the 60s - I have wanted to start this trilogy for several seasons, we'll see if it's as good as I'm hoping
Long Summer Day by R.F. Delderfield

And that's my top 4. There are several more shorter ones that I'm glad to finally have in the top tier of expected reads.

Valerie Brown | 3290 comments I made more bingos than I can really read, so I am going to pick them based on 'how I feel' at that moment.

Now that I am back from our whirlwind family emergency trip, I'm feeling like the seventh bingo I have on my list is the one to start with (!):

i16: The Man in the Wooden Hat**
i18: The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse
i26: Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood
i27: The Devil's Novice
i29: Birds Art Life: A Year of Observation**

At the moment, I think I will then move on to the first bingo on my list:

b3: Disgrace**
i17: Horsewatching**
n39: Murder in an Irish Village**
g60: Decision at Doona**
o68: The Horsemaster's Daughter**

**owned books

Vaidehi | 14 comments My planning is not going as planned! Hahahah
I keep searching for books that will fit the boxes, but then I find them so attractive that I start reading them rather than waiting~~~
Such is the hardship of mine, for books!
(dramatic!!!)

Sue Oerter (sloh) | 134 comments LOLLOLLOL my family thinks it is so funny that I am playing BINGO. They know I hate real bingo and that I never win. Maybe this is my cure, taking something I love, reading, and mixing it with my impatience to hear them "call my number".
Here is my first plan for a bingo and it gets 3 books off my Booker Prize List that I am personally reading.

B15 The Gathering-(booker)
I19 Amsterdam-(booker)
N41 One True Loves
G47 Lair of the White Worm
O65 The Sense of an Ending-(booker)

Ann (lit_chick_77) | 551 comments Top 5 only? Yikes. I have 7 BINGOs planned, maybe more if I get some holds. I love this type of challenge - I can gorge myself on Horror and Graphic Novels!!!

My first 5:
B9 Nothing But Blackened Teeth
I16 The Hunger
N31 I Hate Fairyland, Vol. 1: Madly Ever After
G47 The Death of Jane Lawrence
O66 The Low, Low Woods

#2
B6 Basketful of Heads
I24 Ladycastle
N36 Saga, Book One
G59 Monstress, Vol. 1: Awakening
O61 The Wicked + The Divine Deluxe Edition: Year One

OK, I mapped out all 75 books and due to hold times and such I’m already seeing I’ll have to switch orders. There is NO WAY I’ll get through all of them, even with tons of short books and graphic novels…. But I’m really excited about a few!

message 8: by Bea (new)

Bea Books I am excited about:

1. Parable of the Sower and Parable of the Talents by Octavia E. Butler

I have enjoyed other works by her and, so, I am excited about this series.

2. Lamb in His Bosom by Caroline Miller

A new author that I looking forward to trying.

3. H is for Hawk by Helen Macdonald

A book I have wanted to read for awhile. I enjoy birds and am drawn to hawks.

4. Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury

I love this author and can only wish he were still living to write more. This is one of his that I have been meaning to read for a bit.

5. Well, it is hard to pick another but, since I listed two in item 1, I guess I already have. :)

message 9: by Owlette (last edited Jul 17, 2022 08:19PM) (new)

Owlette | 716 comments My basic approach was to pick my top ones to read next. Using paper, different colors of pens, and the computer, I have one Bingo. I would be pleased if I could finish ten books (two bingos). Bingo one is:

✔B3 (Booker): The Marrying of Chani Kaufman by Eve Harris. Arranged marriages are of interest.

✔I18 Inspirational I've Been Thinking . . .Reflections, Prayers, and Meditations for a Meaningful Life by Maria Shriver (24 users)
I hope it is inspirational. Judging by the title, it might have a variety/hodgepodge of bits and pieces about life.

✔N44 Two set of double letters in author name The Fortnight in September by R.C. Sherriff I tend to like fiction from the 1930s and this one is about a beach vacation, so perfect for the Summer RwS season.

✔G50, author born in the 50s, fits Elegy for Eddie by Jacqueline Winspear; #9 in the Maisie Dobbs series. I wasn't able to fit one in last season.

✔O74 "On" in title Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie Has low lexile which doesn't matter this season. Looking forward to reading it.

Second Bingo:

✔B13 Bridesmaid The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman
✔I24 Adventure: From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E.L. Konigsburg
N37 Nonhuman main character The Fairy Caravan by Beatrix Potter
✔G 52 GR choice award nominee 2013 My Beloved World by Sonia Sotomayor
✔O72 Set in Ontario Ayesha at Last by Uzma Jalaluddin

Third Bingo (15 points each)

The Lord Is My Shepherd: Healing Wisdom of the Twenty-third Psalm by Harold S. Kushner
The Eagle of the Ninth by Rosemary Sutcliff
The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell
The Painted Veil by W. Somerset Maugham

Kathleen (itpdx) (itpdx) | 1733 comments I tackled planning from two angles. One was the books that are the top of my TBR and noted what squares they qualify for and then I went through the squares that referenced lists and checked if I have any onhand that fit the list. Now I am trying to be realistic about how many books I can read in three months and organize some bingos.

message 13: by Lynn (last edited Jun 03, 2022 08:36AM) (new)

Lynn (lynnsreads) Top 5 book choices:

1. B7 City by Clifford D. Simak 15,758 ratings 4.09 average
2. I16 The Blue Castle by L.M. Montgomery
3. N31 Stormy Weather by Paulette Jiles (2007)
4. G54 Life of a Counterfeiter by Yasushi Inoue
5. O67 Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf

But I see that Connie has Stormy Weather in the Os, so that may be the smarter move.
