I found this one very confusing and hard to get into. By the very end, I finally got the "aha", but I don't think many students would stick with it that long. I appreciated the depiction of mental illness.2.5/5
I really liked this book- it's in verse. I think it will appeal to our high school kids. It also has great diverse perspectives with religion, Native American culture, and African American culture.4.5/5
I fell in love with this book immediately! The language is beautiful and so deeply touching. My students love books written in verse and many enjoy digging into different cultures. The practices and sharing of the Native American and African American cultures between the two figures is so fascinating, and the relationship between the two central figures is so supportive of growth and love. The only issue of some students may be keeping the conversation straight between the two--that means--slow down and pay attention. :o) Otherwise, the twist at the end is the bow on the package. Awesome! Loved it. 5/5
