Thank you! I'll fix it. My computer decided to finally give up the ghost after 15 years. I've stolen one from my son-in-law until I can get a new one.
Laptop. It was an old Toshiba that ran on Windows 7 and had lots of other problems that I just worked around. Now, it won't charge and the power plug keeps falling out. The machine won't even turn on. I'm afraid that I won't be able to get my files off of it. I've known for months it was dying. My bad for not acting sooner to get a new one.
I had an old desktop and fortunately had my files on an external drive that I just connected to my new laptop. Highly recommend using one for backup. Keep playing around and see if you can get it turned on one last time and grab those files.
I really need to get and external hard drive and use it. My old work files are on it, and pictures of course. I just tried it - still dead, but not totally. The screen will lighten from totally black to a dark grey, there is life there. My new HP machine arrives on Monday. I'll get my tech guru to look at it and see if we can get it operational for a transfer.
That would be money well spent!
FYI, I had an external drive fail on me and the tech company who helped me (free of charge since they couldn’t help me) recommended the SanDisk product. Their technology is almost fail proof and is what the techs use. Pricy but worth the money when you consider it’s your data.

I had a similar problem last year. I had most of my files on an external drive, but there were almost two months worth that I didn't backup. I look the hard drive out of the old laptop and daisy chained it to the new one. I recovered all my files.
That's great to here, Sharon. My daughter was just here and said they had to do that with a school laptop last year. I know they fail; I've just never had it happen to me!
My new computer just arrived. I've done setup and my favorite internet sites transferred great. I'm going to wait till next week to tackle the file transfers.

I have an afternoon free on this Memorial Day Weekend so I thought I would take this time to post my June list. I hope everyone had a wonderful time. This month is a busy one for me. I'm having surgery to remove the remnants of the melanoma on my back. My first grandson graduates Middle School - watch out North High. Our first waterski trip is planned, and we have many household projects to get done this month.
Enjoy your June!
