For this challenge you will need to read one book a week.

Each week the moderator will announce the Word of the Week. The WotW will have four letters. Each team member will choose one of the four letters. That letter will determine the book they will read that week. You can use the first word of the title (excluding 'a', 'an', or 'the'), or the author's first, middle, or last initial.

There will also be a BONUS Word of the Week. (BWotW)

Example:
The WotW is 'BOAT'. You pick the letter 'A'. You decide to read Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

If you find both the WotW and the BWotW in the text of the book, you will earn the Scrabble point value of the letter and a point for each of the found words. In this example, A is worth 1 point, plus 2 points for the two found words for a total of 3 points.

WotW and BWotW will be announced each Monday morning.

Rules, Teams with less than 4 players, Missing Players, and Captain's Duties

Rules:
* You cannot begin reading your book until Wednesday morning (12:01 a.m.) your time.
* Books must be 140+ pages. Audio book page length is determined by the first paper version that shows up.
* Graphic novels and poetry books are allowed, but they must be 250+ pages.

Teams with less than 4 players and Missing Players:
If a team has fewer assigned members than four, one member will need to read an second book. That member may change from week to week.

If a team member has an emergency or has scheduled an absence, a team member can read 2 books that week so that the team will not lose points.

A team member can have one unplanned absence one without repercussions. When they miss a second week, they will eliminated from the team. In the case of an unplanned absence, a team member cannot read a second book.

Captain's Duties:
* Double check your team members' Completion Posts to verify compliance to the rules and tasks.
* Captains will need to post on the Reporting Thread when everyone in their team has made a Completion Post. That entails one post with a copy of or link to each member's Completion Post.
*Report any problems, concerns, missing players, etc. to the moderator.

Hi hi!

Laura | 291 comments Week one's words are: WofW - Belt, BWofW - Carpet

We have to spell out BELT
then bonus points for finding "belt" and "carpet" in the text of the book we read.

How do we want to determine who reads what letter? First come first serve? Predetermined order?

message 10: by Karen ♐ (new)

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 2382 comments Any way is fine with me. Maybe we can do it like we do the snoop words in clue. First come first serve. But then since Megan is a completely different time zone, would that be fair?

message 11: by Laura (new)

Laura | 291 comments I think technically she would see it first if she was on Goodreads. I think you and I are the most active, Alissa would always be last as she is the least active on GR.

message 12: by Karen ♐ (new)

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 2382 comments Then maybe we somehow make sure Alissa gets first pick sometimes?

message 13: by Laura (last edited Jun 06, 2022 01:05PM) (new)

Laura | 291 comments Yes, I agree.
I have a book for each of the letters in BELT on my Kindle so I'll take the leftover this time

message 14: by Karen ♐ (new)

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 2382 comments B and E both work for other challenges I'm in but I also have books for each of the letters that will work.

message 15: by Alissa (new)

Alissa | 22 comments I don’t mind getting last pick. 🤓 less thinking involved for me that way. It will just be if I have time to read for the bonus word.

Thanks Megan for being captain!

L or T are probably easier for me but I have no preference so Megan whichever you want I’ll take the other.

message 16: by Megan (last edited Jun 07, 2022 01:31AM) (new)

Megan | 167 comments Sorry guys, been slogging my romance book and forgot to check.

I'm good with having a quick discussion like this so we're all happy. Looking at the rules we can't start our book until Weds morning

If you don't mind I'm going to take B. I have a book sitting next to me I need to give back on Saturday.
Beautiful You

Megan | 167 comments My book has belt & carpet in, just used the look inside feature on Amazon to search.
Belt pg 92 "she fastened her seat belt"
Carpet pg 12 "as soft as the silk carpet"

No extra book, Alissa. You just need to find belt and carpet in the book you do read.

message 19: by Laura (new)

Laura | 291 comments B- Megan
E- Karen
L- Laura
T- Alissa

Does this work for everyone?

message 20: by Karen ♐ (new)

Alissa | 22 comments Works for me

message 22: by Karen ♐ (new)

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 2382 comments I’ll read Alibi Nicole Edwards. It has belt in it - Pg 47 - as she unbuckled her seat belt.

Review:
What did I just read...

My best friend recommended this book even lent me a copy. I kept putting it off reading this but did eventually get to it today.

I'm so confused reading this and so confused still even after finishing it.

I think this book is more metaphor telling you to women are being raped by the consumerism, I'm just going off comments on reviews here. It makes sort of sense but I didn't get that until I was told. Wouldn't read again..

Bonus Items and Points:
Belt: pg 92 "she fastened her seat belt"
Carpet: pg 12 "as soft as the silk carpet"

Total: B = 3, 3 + 2 = 5

My letter: E
Book: Alibi Nicole Edwards
Read: June 9
Rating: ★★★★★
Review: I love this series and this book was another great one. There are a few ongoing stories in this one. There is a shocking development and the team is more than ever looking to find Juliet Prince. Characters come into this story from this author's other series. Can't wait to see what happens next as this is an ongoing series which must be read in order.

Bonus item and points:

Belt: Pg 47 - as she unbuckled her seat belt

Total: E=1 + 1 Bonus Point = 2

Review: I started another series by Dale Mayer and I much prefer that series to this one. I found this a little draggy, with not much going on. The characters nor the plot really sucked me in. I'll not likely continue with this series.

Bonus items and points:

Yes. The word may be plural, but nothing else. To use your example, not 'coated' or 'coating'

So yes should be OK

Thanks. I can do any letter also. Some don’t have both words but all have at least one of the words.

message 36: by Megan (new)

Megan | 167 comments Thats what I'm finding mostly although one book seems to have both in that works for G but I haven't gone through most books that work for the letters yet. I'm just trying to go to sleep so will look more when I get up :-)

Megan | 167 comments I'm off to bed I'll check us in in the morning.

Not sure on preference of letters for Laura or Alissa but I did think if theres none I have gone through all the books that work for each letter and I have a book for W A G E that have both words in. Just thinking of getting the most points. What I'm trying to say and I think not saying properly is if we all have similar luck and have a book that works for both bonus' maybe then we can divvy up the letters better? Idk if that makes sense. I'm too tired lol

If you guys want specific letters ignore me :-) I'm just being a little competitive.

message 40: by Karen ♐ (new)

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 2382 comments I found books that have both words in them for letters W or G. I can also do A or E but those would only have one of the bonus words in them.

message 41: by Alissa (new)

Alissa | 22 comments I don’t have a preference and I can read one of the books you found that have both words in it so let me know what they are and whatever letter is left I will take.

Finished my book working in the completion post next. 🤓

Or i also found The Great Escape that works for G
