I am also finishing up an audiobook reread of a book that some consider one of Stephen King's duds (Tommyknockers) and I am sad to say that I agree a bit . . .

So, I will be looking for a palate cleanser!

Kandice | 944 comments I am definitely in the minority that liked The Tommyknockers.

Katerbean98 | 1 comments The Prologue to A Noise Downstairs was crazy! It was a great way for the author to draw you into the story.

I agree! I was very intrigued! I'm listening to the audio.

Welcome back, Meghan! Long time, no see!

Well, these comments so far have me looking forward to the prologue!

Leah Murphy (lkautzmurphy) | 56 comments I’m about 20% into the audio…definitely sucked in, but can’t tell if it’s because I’m hooked to this book or anxious for whatever weird twist will eventually pop up. Time will tell!

Meghan | 118 comments Matthew wrote: "Welcome back, Meghan! Long time, no see!

Thank you! Glad to be back after a little absence when things were crazy and I wasn't reading so much. I got eye surgery recently and now listening to this one on audiobook. It's good so far!

Kandice | 944 comments I'm listening as well. I really like the story, and the prologue really was great as everyone has said, but I don't like this narrator. There's something about his voice that allows me to zone out while listening, so I keep needing to rewind and this almost never happens to me!

Finally got going on this today - 19% in and it is really interesting so far.

Also, I started this on a walk in my neighborhood and about 5 minutes in I encountered a giant Black Rat Snake! Not really related to the book, but just a cool side story that distracted my listening for a few minutes.

Ick!

Kandice | 944 comments I have theories, so only look if you are past the 50% mark (view spoiler)

Ohhhhh, I had thought of the first theory, but not that last one. I like it!

Leah Murphy (lkautzmurphy) | 56 comments This thing is giving me anxiety!

Kandice | 944 comments I don't know if I can say I am enjoying this, and part of that must be my dislike for the narrator, but like Leah says, I am definitely having an emotional reaction to it, and that's probably a win for any author, right?

That’s generally what I think…I read another book recently that I finished thinking I hadn’t really liked it, but ended up thinking about it for two more weeks. I gave it extra stars for the fact that it created something that stuck in my head the way it did.

I'm only 25% (I didn't look! Lol!) But now I'm dying to see what your theories are.

Oh I saw one today too! Where I work it's very hot (usually the core of the California wildfires). As I was coming in today, I saw a snake looking into the building window as if he wanted to come inside to cool down. Lol! He was so cute! But long!......and fast! He slithered away as I went in. We googled it and think it was a Red Racer.

Kandice - I was thinking this exact thing almost the second they first mentioned (view spoiler)

When I was Googling it mentioned the two main black snakes you might see in South Carolina are Black Rat Snakes and Black Racers. If it doesn't move fast, it is a Black Rat Snake. The snake I saw was taking his sweet time!

Lol! Just out for a leisurely stroll. This red racer here moved so fast I was glad I didn't get too close to it.

Aaaaah, you know what's funny I didn't even catch that. 🤦‍♀️ (view spoiler)

I will say, it took me a minute to get into the story. (but I think that's mainly because I'm dealing with other life stuff) But after a bit I was totally hooked. Really wanna' see how this story plays out.
