The Perks Of Being A Book Addict discussion

Hello. I am attempting to make a book club in my community. We started in November 2021. We've kept the same four people until this month which only two showed up tonight. We don't want to let it go but we want to see more participation.
Here is what we have done:

-posted on Facebook and made a group/event page for every book month
-post questions to discussions ahead of time
-changed up locations from breweries to individuals homes.
-cool food bribery
-we switched up genres. We started with sci-fi, fantasy, dark fantasy and the last being suspense thriller (not fantasy and I didn't even read it)


Any suggestions would be fantastic!! Thank you in advance.

My suggestion would be to survey those two who did not show as well as any other prospects and see what they want in a book club, what would make it inviting for them...

Thank you for your reply. We spoke to one and she just said she was no longer interested, the other hadn't liked the book and she was busy so she'll be back depending on the book.

The other member came up with a great idea that I hope attracts some people. We are going to read, "A Botanist's Guide to Parties and Poisons" by: Kate Khavari and then after or during our discussion, put together a plant to take home. :) Should be fun! We use a buy nothing community so we collected the pots and dirt already.

We just each take a turn picking a book, period. In the past we would offer up three books to vote on each month but sometimes that didn't work out too well. We have had as many as 12 members and right now we have 7. People come and people go. One complained we were too social and she still reads the books but doesn't come to the meetings. Can't please everyone.
