Skyler led the initiates to the Pit. "This is the Pit, the center of Dauntless culture," she told the initiates. She was technically supposed to have shown them around the compound the day before, but they had seemed too exhausted for her to want to have to explain again. "This is where we eat and mingle with other Dauntless."

"Initiates usually sit together since they aren't full-fledged members of Dauntless," Skyler said. "But not all the initiates sit together. Sometimes there are rivalries between transfers, and so they'll sit at separate tables. I recommend splitting off into two groups, but that's just me. In reality, you are free to sit however you'd like."
Scarlett went to sit on a table, hoping someone would join her and be her friend

"Hi Cedar, I'm Scarlett but you can call me Lottie. What was your faction?" Happy someone broke the awkward silence

Delilah, William, and Xavier walked to the table where Scarlett, Cecily, Hailey, and Cedar were.
"Hi," Delilah said. "I'm Lila, and this is my brother Liam." She could've said that her name was Delilah, but she had changed it to Lila upon arriving at Dauntless to make a new name for herself. That was the same for her brother William. Delilah looked at Xavier. "And this is, what's your name again?"
Xavier looked at the table. "My name is Xavier, but I go by Zay." He smiled. His Amity roots hadn't been trained out of him yet.

"Hi," Delilah said. "Nice to meet you. All of you." Lila, Liam, and Zay all sat down. "So what faction did each of you transfer out of?"

-Cedar smiled broadly- “Erudite” -She wasn’t ashamed of her past, it could prove helpful, her deep insight of the anatomy of most living creatures-
"Condor" Lottie said. "Cedar, so are you like super smart?"

Delilah looked at the table. "Both of us came from Erudite," she said, referring to her and her brother. She looked over at Xavier. "What about you, Zay?" she asked. "What faction did you come from?"
"Amity," Zay said.
"How'd you end up doing a complete flip?" William asked. "In practice Dauntless and Amity are like...complete opposites."
Xavier shrugged. "I wanted a change."

-Cedar laughed at the ‘smart’ comment- “I wouldn’t say that, it’s pretty much why I left” -She shrugged-

Delilah glanced at William. She and her brother were super smart. They had taken a bunch of Erudite sanctioned IQ tests as children. If they hadn't been Divergent, they definitely wouldn't have left. But of course, the siblings didn't say anything. They didn't want to draw attention to themselves.

Scarlett asked Delilah and William. "Is that why you left? You got bored of Erudite?"
Delilah and William exchanged a look. They couldn't say that the real reason they had left was because they were Divergent. They'd likely be in danger then if anyone found out.
"You could say that," William said, smiling.
"We wanted a change," Delilah said. "Dauntless is like organized chaos, and that's intriguing to me. Erudite was just straight up organization. Not enough chaos. Plus, I mean, a lot of the placement is based on the aptitude tests, right?"

"Ohhhh makes sense. Kinda me too." Scarlett didn't want anyone finding out she was divergent so she decided to play along. "You got dauntless on your aptitude?"
Delilah answered that one instead of William. Unlike her brother, she hadn't gotten Candor on her aptitude test. So she didn't feel bad about lying. Not if it meant protecting her and her brother.
"Of course," she said. "I always knew I didn't fit in in Erudite. It was too...rigid. Too structured." She briefly paused. "I find my personality is too aligned with Dauntless for me to have stayed in Erudite." That much was the truth at least.
