Thank you Rosemarie for opening this!

Based on a story of an Island off the West Coast of Ireland that has been known that people never come back from, but the thrill of an adventure for two boys cannot keep them away or from exploring where their ancestors used to live.

You're welcome! I'm picking up my hold today!

Karin | 702 comments Perhaps this will help me get back into reading classics. I put a hold on it through my state catalogue since it's not in my local library network. If it comes, I can pick it up at my local library.

Manybooks | 610 comments Never even heard of this. Love horses and island stories, so might check if this novel is on Open Library.

I feel like Danny is more level headed than Pat at this point.
The journey home Danny did all the prep and care to get them there still intact and not overboard.

I've past the halfway point and the story has gotten much more exciting and suspenseful.
I get the impression that Danny has a wee bit of the "second sight" in that he can get feelings that things just aren't right.

I started back into reading this morning was about halfway through, I finished it up about an hour or so ago.

You are right Rosemarie it does getting to the point I did not want to put it down today.

I really enjoyed Grandmother's memories of the Island. The last chapter is a "Yes!"

Thank you Tracey for the recommendation. I truly am glad I gave in and bought a paperback :)

I was reading this in the afternoon and didn't start supper until I finished it. The ending was great!
When I was a lot younger I read a lot of horse books, and I've always enjoyed island books as well. This book is a good combination of both.
I liked Luke with all his cats!

Karin | 702 comments I've started this. The beginning wasn't that great for me, but I am liking it more as I go along. I don't think I've read this one before.

The action really picks up after the mid- point and builds up to an exciting ending.

Karin | 702 comments I liked this in the end, and am glad I opted to finally read it. I also read another classic (okay, listened to it on audio) this month, so that's the best I've done in months with my classics reading slump. I read one that is 5 years shy of counting, so no go for that.

I'm glad you're reading plans are getting back on track, Karin.

I'm not yet sure--the Trollope is part of a trim your shelves challenge and the other one was for this group plus something else.

But now that I have a couple of two or three in a row on the Bingo I might push myself to get 4 in a row once my a/c is replaced (that will be a while!)

No worries Karin there is still plenty of time left in the year! but we are happy to see you reading with us.

I really enjoyed Island of Horses. I really liked the background history or better yet the story of the Island.

I really loved anything to do with horses when I was growing up also. We used to go camping on a farm in Bainbridge that they only used horses to farm with. Prince and Bob we loved just being around them brushing, petting or just sitting on them!

My sister and I, plus one of my brothers the second time, got to spend a week at a dude ranch for two years. Insurance at camps wasn't sky high yet. We learned to ride, saddle, feed & groom the horses. Later, a year after we got back to our home province (that camp was in California) my parents bought a horse from friends so we'd ride western style and just in the bush (aka forest), etc. so I was into them

However, none of us at my house were like some girls at our school who read lots of horse novels, had horse posters on the wall, did competitions, etc. I quit riding when I started high school in grade 8 (5 years there) because none of my friends rode, but my sister kept it up. She was a far better rider than I was because she is very athletic.
