George P. | 255 comments I borrowed a copy of this novel this afternoon from my local public library. The county library system here had eight copies; none were checked out (borrowed), sadly for Mr. Ngamije. It's a large library system with eighteen locations. It doesn't look as if it will take a great deal of time to read.
Although I voted in the poll for The Life and Times of Michael K, I'm looking forward to reading it- I haven't read any books by a Namibian author, and only one by a Rwandan author, which is Ngamijie's birth country. That was The Barefoot Woman by Scholastique Mukasonga which I can recommend.

Nice availibility George! I've looked here, and in all of Scandinavia's libraries and national collections across 3 countries, there seems to be only a single copy in the specialized Africa collection way up in Sweden. But really glad to hear that you are planning on reading it!

George P. | 255 comments I'm about 60% through this book now. I wouldn't say it's great literature but it is definitely above average quality so far and is very entertaining. I recommend it based on what I've read of it. The protagonist is a hip upper-middle class Rwandan/Namibian man (like the author) and has been exposed to a lot of western culture. He is a college undergrad and grad student for much of the novel.
August postscript:
Finished and quite enjoyed reading it. Has a fair amt about the young man's sex life, that didn't bother me. A range of characters well- portrayed. Shows some creativity while also being entertaining, 4 stars.
