Matie’s Reads (matiekurray) So I've had Chaos Walking on my tablet for long time now and every time I pick it up to give it a shot I end up putting it down because of the writing. I hate the way the characters talk in slang.

--no spoilers please--

but should I give it another shot and hope i will get used to the writing style? what did YOU think about it?

thanks!:)

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 196 comments One of my favorite trilogies. The writing was a little jarring at first, but once you get into the story it really makes a lot of sense, and, for me, after a while it kind of fades into the background.

I vote try to give it another shot. Those are 3 of the best books I've ever read.

Alison Morquecho (thebookishcamper) | 525 comments I would! It is one of my all time fave trilogies. When I read it I felt the same way and it took me about 100 pages to finally get into it. I'm super glad I made myself read it, it was super worth it.

Alison Morquecho (thebookishcamper) | 525 comments I agree with Tommy, it is like my number one series, next to Harry Potter of course

Jessi (jessilovesbooks) | 364 comments I feel the same way Katie! I've just never been able to get through it. I hear it's amazing, but I just can't.

Emma Like you've already heard, the language/writing style is a shock at first. As I continued reading, however, I grew quite fond of it; the slang makes the characters come to life in my opinion. If you can stick it out through the beginning, I promise you will love the story. This series has moved me and changed me in many ways, which I am extremely grateful toward Ness for. :)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 1040 comments Oh gosh, in my opinion you have to keep reading. This is my favorite dystopian trilogy of all time. Then again, I personally like when a writer gets really creative with slang and really makes an effort to create something new, so I was enamored from the first word :)

Matie’s Reads (matiekurray) Thank you for the feedback! I'm feeling like I should def give it another shot :(

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 196 comments I think I'm with David. Chaos Walking is better than all the popular Dystopian trilogies I can think of off the top of my head.

It's those characters, man haha. It was so hard to fully love or hate anyone(a few exceptions, of course), because I could see where they were all coming from.

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 1040 comments Yes! Exactly right. I love those shades of gray that Ness paints so masterfully :)

Daniel (pickyreader1) | 203 comments I really liked the series- I thought the first book was ok, but the second and third books were amazing.
I do know a lot of people who were very annoyed because of the slang language, and they didn't enjoy it for that reason. So if you are a grammar stickler, you might not love this series (same applies for Blood Red Road). At least give it a try though.
