The Clergyman's Wife: A Pride & Prejudice Novel by Molly Greeley is currently marked down to $1.99.

This is an excellent book (although a little bleak) that is usually priced about $13.

Thank you, Sophia! That's one I've had on my wishlist for a while.

what does that mean? Amazon will no longer sell 0.99 books? or they will be raising prices?

Will Amazon not be letting authors post deals on places like BookBub? I wish they hadn’t taken over basically everything.

Damn, I'm sorry, My Lady, I went digging around through my old emails, but I get up to 200 emails in a day... it was on a writers' newsletter. I'm not even sure it's one I subscribe to - I show up on people's email lists a lot. I dug around trying to find it, but I'm giving up. It might have been a publisher's newsletter, not a writer's newsletter. I also get solicited by small publishers a lot. Those I usually don't read, since so many of them sound like scams. So I doubt it was that, but not outside the realm of possibility...

Keep your eyes and ears open, in any case! Please let me know if you DO find something. I will do the same.

Thank you for looking, Jeanette! The constant inbox influx can be overwhelming at times. I receive a lot of reader-oriented newsletters and articles, and will keep an eye out for any whispers or rumblings as well.

I'm sorry I don't have more details. I read it on a writers/ independent publishers newsletter, and then deleted it. Now I can't find it again...

I am going to try it -- but I notice it has very low ratings and some of the author's other works are labeled "erotic" so I suspect this might be a DNF for me.

message 25: by Katja (new)

Katja | 287 comments I read one of the author's books, and I liked the narrative voice but everything about the sex was rather TMI. Lizzy cheated on Darcy with Wickham, so. I skimmed this one quickly and didn't find anything raunchy but read at your own peril.

message 28: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 907 comments Ugh! No. It is bad enough to read where Elizabeth marries Wickham... but to be unfaithful to Darcy. NOOOOO! I refuse to pollute my brain with that. Shudder. I can't stop shaking after reading that. Maybe I have a fever. I better take my temp.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 907 comments For those that are curious: You can read my diatribe... um... review and be sure to read the following comments. I included a spoiler that told the dirty deed that set me off and pushed me to consider medication.

Mary B An Untold Story of Pride and Prejudice by Katherine J. Chen Mary B: An Untold Story of Pride and Prejudice

There are 159 reviews: 53% 5-stars & 11% 4-stars

Some people apparently like out-of-the-box stories. It was voted one of the best books of the year by Real Simple.

message 38: by Katja (new)

Katja | 287 comments There was one that had Darcy and Lizzy go wife-swapping and Lizzy got stuck with Mr. Collins (he was bad in bed)...

It was so odd it wasn't even icky as much as bizarre... I mean I get it if people want to read steamy scenes but there is nothing steamy about bad sex with someone who is not the least bit sexy and who you don't even like. So why would an author want to write something like that.

message 39: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 907 comments I agree Katja. And... why would D&E even consider hooking up with Collins anyway? If you intend to hook up, at least choose someone you could at least enjoy. Not that I can wrap my thoughts around such a thing. I was newly married when that was the rage. However, we NEVER considered such a thing.

message 40: by Jeanette (new)

Jeanette Watts | 11 comments I feel like such a prude... I don't want to read any sex scenes about Jane Austen characters. She gave her characters their privacy, I just don't want to go there. It feels like Miss Austen would be too appalled. I will happily read sex scenes in other contexts, but the scenes you guys are describing here have convinced me that I should be very careful in my selection of JAFF. Thank you all for the insights!

I'm with you, even some of the "regular" JAFF get a bit OTT for me.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 907 comments Patricia wrote: "what's name of book where Darcy was Mary? id love to read your review on it jw Garrett"

I mentioned the book in comment #37

Mary B is the book. It is a long review. I was on a roll or out of my mind. It could go either way.

message 45: by Craftyhj (new)

Craftyhj | 250 comments The idea of Darcy with any Bennet girl other than Elizabeth is madness for me. It would no longer be a P&P variation.

Austen’s whole point is that Darcy and Elizabeth is not viable and only happens because he finds her character exceptional and he is deeply in love. It just doesn’t make sense for this to happen with any other Bennet girl.

message 46: by abmom (new)

abmom | 288 comments Jeanne and Katja, you both are a lot braver and tolerant than me. Just the idea of these two stories give me nausea especially Katja's.

message 47: by Katja (last edited Jul 27, 2022 06:07AM) (new)

Katja | 287 comments Sometimes I am mysteriously fascinated by obvious trainwrecks. Curiosity killed the cat etc.

you're so right Crafty

my theory was that the lizzy-collins author hated the book and wanted revenge on the characters for having had to read it :P

I remember reading that long ago - hated it. JAFF is supposed to guarantee a HEA for ODC, in my opinion!

message 49: by J. W. (last edited Jul 27, 2022 08:24AM) (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 907 comments @46: abmom, I started that story fat-dumb-and happy with NO idea what I was getting into. If I had ANY idea what was to happen, I would NOT have read that book. It felt like an ambush. I hate an ambush. You go in expecting one thing and are presented with another. I am still scarred from that book. I suppose you can see that from my posts when it is mentioned.

My tirade of a review probably gave the author heartburn. I was sorry for that. It was beautifully written. She was praised for being innovative, presenting something new, and going where none dared to tread. Forgive me for not appreciating that. It should come with a warning or something. But that is what variations are all about... doing something completely different.

However, we continue in our quest for more and more D&E. I repeat... D&E. That has to be the standard. Darcy and Elizabeth... period. They go together through thick and thin. Whew! I need a nap or something.

message 50: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 904 comments Amen to that, Jeanne. A Warning is a definite need!
