I liked this almost as much as the first one and wasn't sure which way to round it--I'm still deciding. I do like Deese as an author, but I liked her first book the best and because this is more of a romance and the first dealt so beautifully with adoption.

It was fun to come back and read Val's story after she moves to the contiguous 48 states and about her romance and I will read more by Deese once it is published, of course. There are some of the gritty real-life issues in this book, of course, which is one of the things that draws me to Deese's writing plus it's easy to root for her protagonists and her writing is fairly strong. However, romance is not my favourite genre.
