Ian (RebelGeek) Seal (rebel-geek) | 426 comments We should all be reading aquatic horror for the summer reading challenge. I'll include some I read (listened to) previously also.
The House Across the Lake by Riley Sager The House Across the Lake
My Heart Is a Chainsaw (The Lake Witch Trilogy, #1) by Stephen Graham Jones My Heart Is a Chainsaw
Salvage A Ghost Story by Duncan Ralston Salvage: A Ghost Story
Into the Drowning Deep (Rolling in the Deep, #1) by Mira Grant Into the Drowning Deep

That's all I can remember for now. I plan to read more this summer.

This was a good one. Took some unexpected turns for sure and kept me on my toes.

I really enjoyed Cutter's The Troop. You should check it out if you haven't already.

The aquatic element serves as the main tool of isolation in this island thriller.

Jeff | 1131 comments The Montauk Monster by Hunter Shea
This is one of my very favorite stories. Hunter Shea has written several horror novels based on famous creature legends. Montauk is at the southern tip of Long Island in the Hamptons. Off the coast is a small Island notorious for being a scientific research base creating mutations. A strange aquatic creature had washed up on the shores of Montauk said to have escaped. There are several pics of it abpnd its body has made the rounds.

Clickers by J.F. Gonzalez

The Clickers series by J.F. Gonzalez

Jesus is your saviour. I think the first Clickers novel was pretty standalone, but after the second volume, it had recurring characters.

message 29: by Netanella (new)

Netanella | 606 comments The first thing that comes to mind is the "MEG" series by Steve Alten. It runs for seven books, and the recurring character is a paleobiologist named Jonas Taylor.

Click the link above the text box that says "add book/author" and search for the book or author you're looking for. By clicking the radial buttons at the bottom of the pop-up window you can choose to hyperlink the name of the book or the cover image.

Navi (nvsahota) | 106 comments I just finished Head Like a Hole A Novel of Horror by Andrew Van Wey - doesn't take place in the water but there is creepy aquatic imagery!

A few others I've really enjoyed:

Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield
Crustaceans by William Meikle
Sair Back, Sair Banes by Anthony Engebretson
Paradise Club by Tim Meyer - aquatic adjacent, set on an island!

This was almost turned into a movie with Joan Collins back in the '80s. They built a pretty impressive mechanical pike.

literarylynz | 1 comments Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant

I have a literal fear of the open ocean so this one hit home for me. Mystery and possible aquatic intelligence sign me up.

The story itself had a great overall pacing, recommend.
