I confess. I do have a ... fondness ... for bad boy tattooed biker smutty romances. Throw in some suspense or thriller action and ... *sigh* ... my perfect escape for a few hours. Alas, while this had a really terrific, fantasy worthy, bad boy biker tattoo artist, and other excellent characters and scenes here and there, its promise was buried under fixable problems.
What problems, you ask? It was twice the length it should have been, leaving the bones of a good story handling some great themes like body image issues lost in stultifyingly repetitious and trite dialogue and internal angst. Poor connections made between some plot points. Worst of all, a poorly developed main female character, the narrator in fact, which especially stood out in comparison to well drawn others.
Has some wonderful steamy smutty inventive bedroom scenes and a virgin trope that worked and made total sense for the narrator Iris. This was a debut, and the author has several more published works. If they prove shorter in length, thus suggesting a better editor, I might check one out the next time I need my biker stud fix.
