Overall the The story is decent enough and well enough told that I have a slight desire to read the next book in the series. Once the story got going it ws a good Sci-Fi Mystery Romp.
But..
1, Enemies to lovers trope. The Insta-love on one side and the insta- attraction on the other, was just too obvious. It lacked subtlety and doubt. It wasn't so much "Will They Won't They" as "Of Course They Will - Just Wait".
2. Way too much "Telling" about the POV character's desires. I prefer things to be shown (slowly and luxuriantly).
3, More Rochester than Darcy, Jane Eyre's Rochester has a dark past and dark secrets. Mr Darcy is a shy, socially awkward but fundamentally decent man hiding within a carapace of pride. I can quote extensive passages of P&P to justify this opinion. You will NOT change my mind.
4. Bad Food Porn. If the sequences of people boringly making and eating boring food are supposed to be titillating, then I must have a jaded palette and no taste buds or patience.
5. Star Trek VI
6. Unsexy Sexy Times. I didn't feel that the sexy times were particularly good fun for either the reader or the participants. Much of the time it felt way too blatant and it killed the mood

Cody | 39 comments I don't disagree with your comments, but some of your points are exactly why I loved the book.

I don't know if enemies to lovers is a wheelhouse item for me, but I do seem to enjoy the build of a romance, and in the scene of the world, I found it interesting and was anticipating the romance. A part of me wonders too if I just happened to read this book at the right time. I had just finished several intense horror books back to back and a delightful, low-stakes romance in space story was exactly what I needed. I really couldn't put the book down, and because the hold is so long for book 2 at my library, I am debating on purchasing it just to get back into the story.

The plotting between high memebers of the Federation and the Klingon Empire to re-ignite the Klingon-Federation war
