This is a discussion thread for The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander for those who have read the book/series. What did you like about it? What did you dislike? Who was your favorite character? Is there anything you'd love to know other people's opinion(s) on? Feel free to discuss anything pertaining to this series. It's also okay to include spoilers in this thread.

Please note that while this is a book by a Christian author, not all of the threads in the Fantasy Books topic are for books by Christian authors and may not be appropriate for all readers. However, honest dialogue and discussion is important. Just because there is a thread for a book doesn't mean that it's recommended or endorsed by F&F.

I just got into this series, I'm really loving it! I've read the first two books, so far, The Book of Three and The Black Cauldron. I haven't got into a series so much since TCoN or LotR! I love tales like this where the main characters go on noble adventures. I didn't really dislike anything! My favorites are all the MC's, they all add a lot to the story.

I was just looking at this series at The Strand in NYC! I've had them on my tbr for a while. I would have picked one up, but they didn't have the first.

Oh my word! It was amazing. I was in book heaven! XD It was my first time, but I will be back! (Hopefully I will get to go sometime without my kids just so I don't have to spend the whole time researching the books they are interested in. I really did not get to look around. But I was super thankful to be able to direct my 14-year-old to some books I saw recommended by folks here on F&F!! Thank you, one and all!

Oh, that's wonderful! What books did you guys end up getting? I watched part of a video that was a tour of The Strand, but I was getting dizzy just seeing it all! Honestly, I could probably spend a whole week shopping in that store and still not be bored of it (and still be finding new books, yk?).

I love this series!! Taran has one of the best character arcs over the five books that I've ever read!

Definitely Eilonwy. I love how Taran and Eilonwy interact 😂

Yeaahhh. 😂 I think my sister said I was like Eilonwy... kinda accurate... My favorite character is Adaon. :')

Eilonwy is hilarious! I had a hard time reading her dialogue out loud to capture it for my son.

Probably Taran. The book is so centered on him that the other characters lack the development he got.
But I still like the other characters.

That's true! For me, I think that Adaon's character was proven (view spoiler)[by sacrificing himself (hide spoiler)], which is why I liked him that much after a small part in one book.

What did you guys think of Taran Wanderer ? I've seen that it's either someone's favorite or they dislike it. It's not my favorite, but I really like it. I thought it was really important for Taran and really showed how he became a man SO well.

Is Adaon the man who (view spoiler)[died in that skirmish and gave Taran that necklace that helped him be incredibly in-tune with nature (hide spoiler)]? If so, then, yes, I loved him.

I thought Taran Wanderer was ok, but I knew my son would hate it, so I summarized it for him, then was going to move on to The High King. However, he suddenly decided the books were "too weird", and didn't want me to read them anymore. 🤷‍♀️ One day, I hope he will read it or let me read it to him.
