Victorians! discussion

Hi Victorians,

We have a short slot available for a group read over September and early October 2022. So this is to invite nominations for a shorter work, about 350 odd pages which everyone would like to read over say a five to six week period after which our winter reading begins.

One nomination per person and per author as always. A poll will be set up as soon as we reach 6.

I thought The Hand of Ethelberta by Thomas Hardy was our next book?

If this was an error, I´ll nominate it, as I already got the book and am a big Hardy fan. :)

I read Chapter 1 last night and was about to read Chapter 2 tonight before I hit the sack. I thought the discussion was supposed to be starting today!?

I think we all thought the same, as the novel was announced at the bottom of the group page for starting today. :)

I'll check with the others on when the Ethelberta discussion is going up but this was meant for after that book since Ethelberta is ti run till early September. Let me just clarify dates once again and confirm

Hi all, just another reminder that nominations are still open for September

I propose Black Beauty by Anna Sewell.

I have chosen a novelist who I have never read and hardly heard of. She is Mary Cholmondeley. Her two most successful novels were ‘Red Pottage’ and ‘Diana Tempest.’ Diana Tempest is fifty pages shorter so I will nominate it for our September read.

I read it several years ago. It's really excellent! But of course, it's George Eliot. What did you expect? ;)
