Started tonight, didn't read much, I think I'm only 7%. There are these interludes I guess you would call him, like in a play where you have a description of the setting or an action a character does or what a narrator would say. I feel like they just chop the story up instead of letting it flow if you know what I mean.I guess the choice was made to be interesting but it doesn't work for me lol
I've read this one and I absolutely loved it. I've noticed one similarity in Olivie Blake's books is that she gives more importance to the writing than the overall plot. So ya if we want to see a good plot we won't find it in her books. but the writing is top tier. I'm a literature student so for me I really enjoyed the book. but as a reader who would like to see more of a plot you probably won't be able to enjoy it as much
hey!! Yeah i feel like it does kinda interrupt the flow a little bit! i don't think it has anything to do with the story really
Glad to hear you enjoyed this one, Nishita! I'm not a particularly plot driven reader, I don't mind when it's a character driven story. I really enjoyed The Atlas Six by her for sure.I do think her writing is good. Just in this case, the interludes take me out of the story. I agree, Bella, I don't feel like they add anything other than being a stylistic choice.
Having said that, both Aldo and Regan seem interesting characters to follow for sure.
Yes, they do! I read about 30 pages last night! I'm seeing a celestial theme which may be a bit on the nose given the title lol
I'm liking it! it's always a little harder for me to stay focused while reading physical books but this one has kept my attention! maybe it's the short perspectives of each character. I loved their interaction when they first met!!!
Haha...for me, its the other way around. Harder to stay focused if listening to an audiobook. Sometimes my thoughts drift off and then I have to go back lol. I did like their first interaction as well.
I was trained by all the podcasts I used to listen to before I started listening to audiobooks haha. I didn't get to read much last night, but I'm looking forward to continuing today!
Hahaha..sound like it. I think I left it at 23% last night, still at Conversations. I am enjoying their interactions and there haven't been as many interludes lol
Yeah, but it ended up just annoying me lol. Dont need interludes for background info. I guess it depends what works for each person haha.I'm pretty sure there are no interludes in part 2 conversations. I'm in the middle of part 3 keys and don't think I've seen any either. Or they were minimal so it didn't take me out of the story.
What do you guys think so far?
I have to read it on my phone bc my kindle is a real piece! I love some of the qoutes about time on the beginning
Its all good, Courtney! I'm also reading on my phone cause I have the ebook from my library. But the library app is so outdated that it doesn't work on the kindle.
yeah I don't want to call it lazy writing but it felt like lazy writing, you know. I know she's a great writer based on everything else I've read so far but the interludes do seem to chop it up a bit! I love the way they interact with each other! it's really cute so far haha
Haha, Bella...I think they were meant to be an interesting writing choice but ended up feeling lazy to me too lolI guess there were a few cute moments haha...I'm over 70% now.
I don't know, but from the start I had a feeling like everything is going to crash and burn in the end...I may be wrong.
The interludes stop when you get into their actual relationship...which is goodI think there is one at the very end haha
I've been very busy these past few days but I'll keep steadily reading throughout the week :) I'll probably finish on Wednesday!
I love that they're both a little off. When you have mental health problems I can imagine one of the hardest parts might be to realize that no one really understands you so I'm glad they found ea other. I'm only on page 80 something but I'm finally done with school until September so I'm gonna be back to my old happy, book-reading self here ASAP!
I'm almost done! i have about 40 pages left! I don't know how I feel about their relationship! I'm on Masso's side... I feel like Reagan is too impulsive and lives for chaos. I'm not sure if they're good for each other. i know she feels more like herself without her meds, but idk if being "herself" is best/safest for everyone including her. Their entire relationship feels like a manic episode, and instead of giving me the butterflies and the squealing excitement that I usually get from reading romance novels, I feel anxious about what's to come. I was going to finish last night but I was too scared lol
Bella, I couldn't have said it better myself...absolutely agree with you. Read the author's note at the end as well :)
Also, what would you guys like to read next?
I feel the same way Bella. I really want them to make it but it's definitely feeling like a manic episode and poor Aldo is going to get hurt. I should finish today I have like 50 pages to go!
I'm open to any suggestions :)I haven't continued with Shadow and Bone book 2 but I have to hahaha
Mystery thrillers that come to mind that I have The Twyford Code, Who is Maud Dixon, The Night Shift, Cuckoo's Calling.
Romance I don't have a lot, but top of my head You Made a Fool out of Death with your Beauty, Seven Days in June, The Dating Plan.
Fantasy I have a lot too haha...top of my head Her Majesty's Royal Coven, City of Brass, Sorcery of Thorns, An Ember in the Ashes, Six of Crows, A Darker Shade of Magic
You Made A Fool does sound good and so does Seven Days! I think season 2 of Shadow and Bone is coming out soon too lol. I'm also on book 2
I'm happy with any option we decide on. Happy with other suggestions too :)Lol...I know, I heard about season 2 coming out soon...To be honest I wasn't hooked on book 1, it was just okay for me, it read pretty young YA. I do want to check out book 2.
yeah I get you, I felt the same! I liked Six of Crows better! I was able to borrow Seven Days at my library :) Courtney, do you have any suggestions?
I feel like I will like Six of Crows better too, just have to read it haha. I have Seven Days on my kindle if we want to go for that one.
Yeah, Courtney, anything that comes to mind? :)
