the cake inside of an orange is a great idea. we used to take bananas leave them peeled, split them up the middle and stuff them with chocolate chips and marshmallows and other things, then we would wrap them in foil and put them in the fire for a few minutes. and then you would use a spoon or a fork to eat out the inside from the peel.
Oh yes, I have heard of the "banana boat" idea. And, I definitely want to try that!
Have you tried doing the foil packet meals? The idea is sound and should work for me and seemingly does others. But try as I might they never seem to cook through for me. I ask, wondering if it is really just me or is there a trick or step maybe I am missing? They are fun for the kids or I would just by pass.... 😊
Thank you Mike~I will definitely try the banana boats our next trip out!

What a great excuse to cook creatively since you're working with limited tools, unpredictable conditions, and fewer ingredients.
One of the coolest, creative camping ideas shared with me, were Mini Chocolate Cakes cooked in Oranges Totally blew my mind and I love returning the favor as often as I can get away with.
We are getting ready to tie up the summer vacation with our favorite young campers and I can not wait to ever so leisurely cut the top off my orange, spoon most of the yummy fruit out. Sure, I'll be a bit strange at first. Why not just peel it? And here is where I will begin to take great pleasure in explaining that I need a bowl for my chocolate cake. 😆😄 !?!? 😄😆
Really it is essentially a mug cake, so any cake in a mug recipe will work.
Fill your oranges with cake batter until they are about 3/4 to the top.
Place the lids on top of each orange and wrap it with heavy-duty aluminum foil.
Set wrapped oranges, cut side up, in the campfire coals, and cook until done (about 10 minutes). If you want to be sure they are done, stick a knife in one and see if it comes out clean! If not done, cook the cake for a few more minutes.
Allow them to cool but you will want to enjoy them warm.
Do you have any creative camping tricks using limited tools and fewer ingredients? Please share 😊
