I loved this book! Normally I am not so into the fall in the future world has gone to hell stories, but all the 80s references were awesome. As a video game lover, I loved the idea of a hidden quest inside what was essentially a giant video game. The story was really well done, I liked it a lot
I thought I wrote a review of this book when I read it, but I guess not!I agree with Taryn, I think the quest/video game was really well done. I'm a big fan of cyberpunk, and there were definitely some interesting elements of that in here. The whole dystopia thing, virtual reality worlds, etc. The 80's element was kind of fun, though it did seem a little excessively done at times. (Still, the premise of the guy being a great fan of the 80s was a clever way to incorporate it).
I wonder whether people who did not grow up in the 80s would appreciate this book as much.
By the way, it looks like not only are they in talks about making this into a movie...but there might be a sequel as well!
I really enjoyed this book. I was surprised by it actually. I never thought reading about video games [rather than playing them] could be so much fun. While a lot of the 80s references were over my head [I was born in 89], I liked how much depth it gave to the book and the quest. I didn't even know they were working on a sequel! that alone just made my day!!!
