Hi! I'm so glad you're here. I'm Carie. I write a blog called MiddleAgedLadyShit. I love to read but hate book clubs. That said, I really WANT to get back to READING more and SCROLLING less.

Like, a lot less. My mental health depends on it.

I recently finished Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. Now I'm reading Circling the Sun by Paula McLain.

What are you reading? What's your reading style?

Angie Dag | 1 comments i Carie and the rest of you middle agers!

I’m not great with rules. I love to hear what other people are reading /loving or not loving. I’m reading Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow at the moment. It has a good gen X vibe. I like fiction, love a good memoir and an occasional self helppy-learn -to-understand-my-feelings kind of book. A lot of audiobooks (I’m a slow reader) but I do enjoy a real book from time to time.

Can’t wait to hear what you all are reading.

- Angela

Val | 2 comments I just finished reading The Island of Sea Women the womeby Lisa Sea. It's about the women divers during the 1930's from Korea that provided for their families while the husband's took care of the children. Very good read.

Angie!! So glad you are here!!!

I love that you brought up audio books. Did you know that listening to a book fires up all the same brain stuff that reading does!?!? (I think I saw a tweet about that so do your own research haha). So glad you are here!

Valerie— did you steal that book from my house? Cuz I started that but have not finished it 😂😂😂

Debbie Mcnulty | 2 comments Hi! I'm Debbie and I'm so glad I found this group. I am trying to reengage with my love for reading.

Alicia Hall | 1 comments Hi! I’m Alicia and I, too, couldn’t resist joining based on the group’s title and description! I’m trying to pick up my reading and put the devices down more this year…and beyond. Just finished a few books that resonated and/or sat with me for a while: The Reading List by Sara Nisha Adams, Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren, Good Company by Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney, and Hello, Sunshine by Laura Dave.

Yes I think I did. You really need to read it.

Evelyn | 1 comments Hi I'm Evelyn an obsessive reader from Kansas. My taste in books vary depending on my mood so I am kinda all over the place when choosing what to read. Not big on scrolling in general but hoping to start getting more consistent with my book tracking in goodreads, and make some like minded friends to share my love of reading with.

Debbie Mcnulty | 2 comments Hi! I'm Debbie from Wisconsin. I love many genres of books and I'm currently writing a memoir.

Ann K | 1 comments Hi! I’m Ann, a huge book nerd from Wisconsin hoping to connect with some fellow middle-age book nerds. I am also an amateur writer and am vowing to prioritize my writing in 2024 as a creative outlet. I love reading most genres and am looking forward to chatting about all things books with some other cool bitches! :)

message 12: by Lee Ann (new)

Lee Ann Hi! I am Lee Ann. Just a middle-aged lady who loves to read books (all genres). I live in a small town in Illinois. Nice to meet you ladies on here. :)

Hi Ann, I am also a middle aged book nerd who is currently writing. Well, the first three quarters of 2024 will be neck deep in revision.

I haven't been as current here as I would like, so I am not sure if this group is thriving or not. I started off 2024 with a book that I can't seem to get into so that is sad. It is admittedly a lot of pressure to put on the first book of the year.

Amy | 1 comments Hi everyone! my name is Amy and I am fairly new to Goodreads, which is odd since I devour books. I will read anything and everything, but some of my favorite authors/books are Mary Roach, Bill Bryson, Gone with the Wind, Divine Comedy by Dante, history, Mil Millington, the list goes on! I'm currently reading the VERY long series of Philippa Gregory in order....almost done! Looking for good book suggestions and fun friends!

message 15: by Hally (new)

Hally (hcbini) Hello GenX Ladies & Jeb,

I’m Hally, love reading, I think I’d like to be in a book club, but have trouble following through, thus my experience is limited, so don’t exactly hate them. I’m looking for another form of book communication, could this be it….its a little paradoxical to try limiting device use by joining an online group, but I move around a lot so it’s hard to find people to talk books with.

Just finished Allende’s “A Long Petal of the Sea”, an interesting read on the tolls of fascism in our world of constant refugee creation. Before that Jesmyn Ward’s “Let Us Descend”, a brutal, yet lyrical exploration of a female slave, and before that Sujata Massey’s “The Bombay Prince”, a mystery set in pre-partition India (1920’s). I am learning that Parsi’s came from Iran/Persia, still not sure if they are all Zoroastrian, or they left to find religious freedom from Islam or what. More learning needed on this front.

Not sure how discussions work in these groups, but those are my most recent reads. Best wishes to all of you. ✌🏽

Brandy Jones (84652156715) | 1 comments Hey there...I'm Brandy. The world is falling apart, and I'm disassociating with books and video games. Hey, there are worse ways to cope!
I'm a Stephen King addict (I even have a tattoo to prove it) but I'll read almost anything. I really love Philippa Gregory, all of Pat Conroy's books, Richard Adams, some fantasy/romantasy, and just learning to love Brandon Sanderson. I've been in a reading slump on and off for the past couple of years, but the state of the world has driven me back to my Kindle lately. It's been a welcome respite.
Glad to be here! Nice to "meet" you!

Phoenix Ryder (phoenixryder) | 1 comments Hi, I'm Phoenix Ryder (pen name), but am a slightly bitchy mid-40s gal. Can we share our own books on here? Just released a romance satire about late Gen X. Page turner, slightly spicy. It's fun.
