I read this about 1984 so guessing it was published in the early 80s, perhaps the late 70s? A planet was colonized and they quickly realized they could not grow edible foods or feed their livestock so they created a culture of cannibalism. Women were hooked up to life support machinery (rendered brain dead) and just suffered continuous pregnancies to feed the populace. I think they may have ate any age of human flesh, but the image of eating babies is seared into my mind.
