Orange was first settled by Europeans in 1746, created from lands in the towns of Royalston, Warwick and Athol. The lands were not fully settled until the latter parts of the century, becoming the District of Orange in 1783, and finally being incorporated as a town in 1810. It was named for William, Prince of Orange. By the late nineteenth century the New Home Sewing Machine Company was the largest industry in town, putting out 1.2 million machines at its peak in 1892. In 1900, it was home to the pioneer automobile company Grout, considered the first automobile built in a factory in the United States. Orange has a beautiful river front with a boat launch on to the Millers River at 25 East River Street. There is a park and parking lot for visitors and residents to visit, take in scenic views, and unload to launch onto the river. Visitors come from all over to enjoy kayaking and canoeing on the Millers River.

8. Pink Hill, North Carolina
The original town settler, Anthony Davis, owned a large farm on a hill in southern Lenoir County. Every spring, fields of pink flowers would bloom in the fields as far as the eye could see. Davis would name the community Pink Hill. The Wilbur A. Tyndall Tractor Museum has a collection of John Deere, Massey, and other tractors from various years. There is also farm memorabilia from the area.

On September 17, 1851, the United States government signed a treaty with the Crow Nation, ceding the area which now contains Red Lodge, MT to the Crow Indians. In 1896, Red Lodge had twenty saloons and, as the library records show, riotous and violent living was characteristic of the town. Red Lodge suffered in the Great Depression, which forced many mines to close. To offset this downturn, the manufacture of illegal bootleg liquor, labeled syrup, became an economic mainstay and was sold as far away as Chicago and San Francisco. In 1931 work began on the Beartooth Highway linking Red Lodge to Yellowstone National Park; it was officially opened in 1936.

The Cities
1. Black River Falls, Wisconsin
Black River Falls was founded to utilize the waterpower of the Black River. As the area was predominantly forest at the time, its primary use was in operating sawmills. The Black River Falls area is home to a large population of the endangered Karner Blue butterfly.

2. Blue Earth, Minnesota
The city took its name from the Blue Earth River which surrounds the town. It is home to a statue of the Jolly Green Giant. Petoskey's Sports Bar, a Midwest-themed bar in Seattle, Washington, features a vegetable pizza on their menu named after Blue Earth, Minnesota because of the town's association with agriculture and the Jolly Green Giant.

3. Brownsburg, Indiana
Brownsburg was first settled in 1824 by James B. Brown. When he arrived, the area was a dense, unbroken stretch of wilderness. Four years later, the first log schoolhouse was built in Brown Township. Once a stagecoach line was established along a road built in 1820 connecting to Indianapolis, more settlers arrived. Kristen Ashley, author grew up here.

4. Grayson, Kentucky
After the Revolutionary War, George Washington's aide-de-camp Col. William Grayson received a 70,000-acre (280 km2) tract of land for his service during the war from the state of Virginia. By 1838, a small portion of this tract was set aside for the development of a town named for him. The town also hosts a Memory Days festival each year.

5. Camp Verde, Arizona
As the oldest community in the valley, the Town has a unique history, dating back to the early 1860′s. Settlers first began migrating into the Verde Valley because of the mining industry. The first military establishment was a temporary post overlooking the farms at West Clear Creek. The Marvel Comics superhero characters James and John Proudstar are from a reservation in Camp Verde.

6. Golden, Colorado
Founded during the Pike's Peak Gold Rush on June 16, 1859, the mining camp was originally named Golden City in honor of Thomas L. Golden. The Colorado School of Mines, offering programs in engineering and science, is located in Golden. In addition, it is also home to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, National Earthquake Information Center, Coors Brewing Company, CoorsTek, Boston Market, Spyderco, Software Bisque, American Mountaineering Center, and Colorado Railroad Museum. It is the birthplace of the Jolly Rancher, a candy bought out by the Hershey Foods Corporation, and home to Yeti Cycles. Western showman William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody is buried nearby on Lookout Mountain.

7. Orange, Massachusetts
Orange was first settled by Europeans in 1746, created from lands in the towns of Royalston, Warwick and Athol. The lands were not fully settled until the latter parts of the century, becoming the District of Orange in 1783, and finally being incorporated as a town in 1810. It was named for William, Prince of Orange. By the late nineteenth century the New Home Sewing Machine Company was the largest industry in town, putting out 1.2 million machines at its peak in 1892. In 1900, it was home to the pioneer automobile company Grout, considered the first automobile built in a factory in the United States. Orange has a beautiful river front with a boat launch on to the Millers River at 25 East River Street. There is a park and parking lot for visitors and residents to visit, take in scenic views, and unload to launch onto the river. Visitors come from all over to enjoy kayaking and canoeing on the Millers River.

8. Pink Hill, North Carolina
The original town settler, Anthony Davis, owned a large farm on a hill in southern Lenoir County. Every spring, fields of pink flowers would bloom in the fields as far as the eye could see. Davis would name the community Pink Hill. The Wilbur A. Tyndall Tractor Museum has a collection of John Deere, Massey, and other tractors from various years. There is also farm memorabilia from the area.

9. Red Lodge, Montana
On September 17, 1851, the United States government signed a treaty with the Crow Nation, ceding the area which now contains Red Lodge, MT to the Crow Indians. In 1896, Red Lodge had twenty saloons and, as the library records show, riotous and violent living was characteristic of the town. Red Lodge suffered in the Great Depression, which forced many mines to close. To offset this downturn, the manufacture of illegal bootleg liquor, labeled syrup, became an economic mainstay and was sold as far away as Chicago and San Francisco. In 1931 work began on the Beartooth Highway linking Red Lodge to Yellowstone National Park; it was officially opened in 1936.

10. White Hall, Arkansas
Received the name White Hall from the first building built in the community which was a whitewashed wooden church. Dollarway Road, White Hall’s main thoroughfare, was the first paved road in Arkansas and the longest paved road in the United States at the time of its completion in 1913. White Hall is home to the Pine Bluff Arsenal.
