This thread coincides with the favorite fantasy author poll, which you can find the link to below.

https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/2...

Please do share about your favorite fantasy authors (they can write for a Christian audience or for the general market), and maybe we can get some bookish discussions and recommendations going!

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 21 comments Elizabeth Moon but mostly for The Deed of Paksenarrion The Deed of Paksenarrion (The Deed of Paksenarrion, #1-3) by Elizabeth Moon

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 21 comments Oh! Also Charles Williams another one of the Inklings.

Wow, he's new to me!

Raquel (Silver Valkyrie Reads) Some of my specific favorites/recommendations:

(great for a range of ages)
The Chronicles of Narnia
The Lord of the Rings
The Princess and the Goblin
Gregor the Overlander (series)
The Tale of Despereaux
The Paper Magician (disclaimer: I didn't make content notes on this one, but I don't *remember* any big issues)
The Bridge
Magnus
100 Cupboards
Clara's Soldier: A Retelling of the Nutcracker

(some content/worldview concerns, best for older readers)
Neverwhere
Dracula
The Historian

Thank you for these! Many are considered middle grade (or at least middle grade friendly), right?

Raquel (Silver Valkyrie Reads) Yes! There are a couple of YA ones in the 'all ages' list too, but the cleaner kind. :-) I love a well written middle grade though--I think they tend to be more hopeful, which I love.

I forgot to include specific Kate Stradling recommendations in the first post:
Brine and Bone
The Heir and the Spare

(Both have minimal content issues, but the second one does have some intense emotional content.)

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 21 comments Hi Lily, yes Williams was one of C.S. Lewis' favorite writers.

Ella Ferris (eferris) | 311 comments I really like C.S. Lewis, Tolkien, Shari L. Tapscott, Brittany Fichter, Jennifer A. Nielsen, Erin Beaty, Sara Ella, Gail Carson Levine, and Shannon Hale (the latter two are middle grade-ish and I loved them when I was that age).

Judgemental Toast (judgmentaltoast) Stefanie Lozinski is a great fantasy author! :) Her "Storm and Spire" series is really good. The first book came out earlier this year and the second is coming out next month!

It's an honor to have her in the group! I definitely want to read something by her someday.

Elizabeth Faustina (ourladysthimble) | 327 comments Has anyone read every book by an author? (That is, an author who has written multiple books?)

Oh my goodness, yes, it is SUCH a good book! I finished the second and third book really quickly and I REALLY want to order the fourth one but I'm not letting myself because I have other books I want to finish, but I really want to. I have a really bad habit of breaking those resolutions though so it might be coming in from my library sooner than later. 🤭

@Helena!! You and I are similar readers! I get into a series, and keep plowing through no matter what else is on my nightstand. XD

And what fun are resolutions that you can't tweak?? :D

Elizabeth Faustina (ourladysthimble) | 327 comments It doesn't help that I just found out how to order books from different libraries through my own library. :') XDD

True, true. XD

Amari LYNETTE NONI!!

Lynette Noni

She's a YA Christian author, and her 'Medoran Chronicles' does have an underlying theme of the Bible. I highly recommend her writing. <333

Oh, I didn't know that! I think like sometimes even secular authors inadvertently include themes that reflect biblical truth even when their book in general might not be purposefully biblical. Thank you for letting us know about the LGBTQ+ stuff in The Prison Healer.

Ellia ☆Meyarin Moonlark☆ | 699 comments This seems like a dead thread, but I was reading through it and just wanted to say that I LOVED The Medoran Chronicles!! I convinced my boyfriend to read them too, and now he really likes them.

W. Newman | 5 comments Are there any other Stephen R. Lawhead fans here? I've read everything he has written, but a few of his book series stand out:
- Taliesin is the first book in the Pendragon Cycle. There's a surprisingly good TV series on these books over on DailyWire right now (I hope they get released to DVD).
- Hood is the first book in his incredible re-telling of the Robin Hood legends.
Lawhead is an excellent researcher of all things Celtic mythology, so his books are detailed and accurate.
