If you have joined us for Emma Straub's "This Time Tomorrow" we are now at the conclusion of the book. We hope you have enjoyed time-traveling with Alice.
Alice not quite sure where she was the past of the future. She decided to see a psychic. Alice provided details about herself and waited as the psychic read her cards and told her to be happy because in life you never know what is coming.
Tommy was trying to call her, she was late. She made her way back to her father's home. She fell asleep and found herself in her own bed. Alice was reflecting on whether she had made her future better by going back in time. It was still her birthday. She was okay with being forty. She met with Sam and talked about life, Sam expecting a baby, her dad. Many emotions happening to Alice.
She went back to the hospital to see her father. They talked about life, death. She talked to him about her time-travel. She found herself going back and forth from past to present birthdays, seeing friends, talking with her dad, wishing for more time with him. Wondering if she she attempt to change the past to make life better for everyone. Alice's party ended and she called her father and told him she loved him. He toasted her "until the future"...
Spoiler...I'm not going to tell you how it ends.
I want to know what you thought about the book. Would you time-travel to make life better? would you leave things as they are, for better or worse? I think Alice came in the middle trying to resolve things in her life that made her unhappy. Making her peace with her father was important. Finding love, or thinking to "have it all" meant success also made Alice search deep for what was important in life. I think she wanted to impress everyone else, more than being happy for herself. And in the end she realized she just needed to be happy in her day and appreciate the people in her life while she still had them around her. Life, friends and family were the riches she was searching for.
I hope you enjoyed the book. Would you time-travel?
