Originally published in 1976. Features Miss Marple (#13).

Soon after Gwenda moved into her new home, odd things started to happen. Despite her best efforts to modernize the hose, she only succeeded in dredging up its past. Worse, she felt an irrational sense of terror every time she climbed the stairs.

In her fear, Gwenda turned to Miss Marple to exorcise her ghosts. Between them, they were to solve a "perfect" crime committed many years before.

Fairly good, though one scene was lifted right out of By the Pricking of My Thumbs (their visit to a mental health facility encounters the same patient as a visit by Tuppence). I thought I knew whodunnit but, as usual, Dame Agatha threw a curve ball.

I think it would be the other way round, since Sleeping murder was written in the 1940s.

Louise Culmer | 171 comments It’s a good story but terribly sad.
