Ann (annrumsey) | 17023 comments Book three in the Thursday Murder Club series, The Bullet That Missed by Richard Osman is out soon. We're reading it as a group read in October after enjoying the first two books as previous group read books.
Are you planning on reading it? If you haven't read the series yet, I highly recommend it!

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9534 comments Oh I am DEFINITELY reading it. I'd better make sure I've requested it from the library.
----
edit: #37 in line from one library
at my other library #253 for regular and #55 for large print. Not sure I will reserve those. #37 is probably good enough and I can always use an Audible credit if I get desparate

Ann (annrumsey) | 17023 comments Carol: if I put a hold on the print version, I will be #79 for 49 copies, though some of the copies are Lucky Day and not reservable. (Maybe as many as half are lucky day) . this may end up being an audible credit..

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9534 comments Ann: what's a Lucky Day copy? How does that work?

Ann (annrumsey) | 17023 comments Carol: a lucky day copy is one they don’t put in regular circulation, the lucky day shelf at the front of the library is ready for anyone to grab a copy good for only a seven day loan if available. Most new books that have broad appeal start out about half lucky day/ half for those on hold. After a while the lucky day copies blend in with the already circulating copies. A patron may only have one lucky day book out at a time. It’s nice for the people who don’t get a good hold slot or who ware unaware.
I dropped by the library today to peruse that very shelf but the rack was almost bare so I went home empty handed of lucky day books BUT with two others. Of course!!

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9534 comments Oh thanks for the explanation Ann. It sounds like a good compromise to accommodate online reservers and walk-in borrowers. Our library at one time had a policy that new books were only available on a walk-in basis, to accommodate those who don't reserve online, but that didn't make me very happy. I think they abandoned that policy but don't know what they did to make up for it for those who walk in.

Ann (annrumsey) | 17023 comments Carol: agreed, it seems like a good compromise, and I have enjoyed both the opportunity for adding my name to the hold list for new books and a surprise lucky day book too. On that note, today I got what I assume is a Goodreads giveaway book - landing on my front porch today. Ian Rankin's A Heart Full of Headstones. What a nice surprise.

Bonnie Mine is on library holds- so if I happen to luck out in October, I will join for sure. If not, I'll come back when I do get it/read it and see what everyone thought.

Ann (annrumsey) | 17023 comments I had to laugh. I went to the library a couple of times right after release, hoping to see the hardback of The Bullet That Missed on the Lucky Day shelf for a quick 7-day loan.
But none were there of course until I decided to spring for an audible credit to listen, my preferred format anyway. After getting the audio, starting it and heading to the library, there not just one, but two copies on the lucky days shelf. I left them there for another lucky patron - I am overbooked with print already.

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9534 comments That is funny, Ann! Go figure.
