How old should you be to trick or treat? And should we celebrate it?

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

For Trick Or Treating...I'd say 8? Unless you're accompanying a younger sibling or something.

And as a Christian, and personally, I feel we shouldn't celebrate it. Getting candy isn't the problem. Handing out Candy (and/or tracks too( isn't the problem.) Even dressing up as a frog isn't the problem. It's the meaning behind all of it. It's pretty much like the Mexicans Day Of The Dead but not Mexicans. People put out ghosts, skeletons, zombies, and demons. When it first started, Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. On the night of October 31 they celebrated Samhain, when it was believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth. It's a pagan celebration to welcome the harvest at the end of summer, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. Sooo ya

Thats how I feel about Halloween too, Kara! Candy and costumes is fine--it's what is behind all that that isn't. My family hasnt celebrated Halloween for years because we learned how evil all that is. *shivers*

Exactly. My brother when he was little was at a friends house and they were talking about Halloween and he told them "if you celebrate Halloween you're going to hell." XD We give out candy but with tracts. (A tiny paper that says how to get saved and why you should be saved)

It doesn't talk about not getting free candy. In fact they use that sometimes. That yes candy is a lovely treat/gift and gives temporary happiness. But Jesus can give everlasting happiness and satisfaction. And how you can enter a relationship with Him.

Well if that's their religion then that's what they believe. And to Christians they believe that it's about Jesus. It may not be what you think but you shouldn't tell them what they should believe

Thank you. Yes, to us, it is about Jesus.

Abby | 443 comments Ok sure to you but you don’t need forcing it upon people most people don’t want to Hear how Jesus is number 1.

It's not being forced upon us. They're just saying that's what they believe. They aren't saying that we have to believe it

It's not forced. It's even your choice to believe it or read the paper.
If someone tells you:
Ya know...you could die in a fire. So I advise you get out.
They aren't forcing you to get out. It's your choice to accept that you could die in a fire and get out. Forcing would be us Christians tying you down in a chair and telling you that you should accept Jesus Christ if you want to live and if you don't we leave you in a basement never to be found. (Sense my humor hear I'm not being serious. )

Trick or treaters dont come to our house (because we live in the middle of nowhere pretty much lol) but they knock on the door of our church so when they do we give them candy and tracts.

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

We don't get people at our door coz people are stupid lol. They can't find our front door

My door is round a corner from a wall so they go to my neighbour. But when they turn away from their door you can see ours? But somehow no one knows it's there
