A good month of mostly audios.

Good Reads

Head Wounds - Chris Knopf
This book uses the worn out plot device of having the lead character, Sam Acquillo, accussed of murder to good effect while fleshing out Sam's backstory in this third installment of the series set in the Hamptons. Listened to the audio version which was narrated by the always excellent Richard Ferrone.

Last to Die - Tess Gerritsen
The plot in this entry in the series was a bit over the top but I did enjoy the characters and the narration of the audio by Tanya Eby was well done.

Let's Hear It for the Deaf Man - Ed McBain
The Deaf Man is back to torment the detectives of the 87th Precint. This was the 27th book in the series published back in 1972 and had a nice mix of cases and characters.

All the Living and the Dead: from Embalmers to Executioners, an Exploration of the People Who Have Made Death Their Life's Work - Hayley Campbell
An interesting and well written look at the industry of death and the various types of people who do the work. Listened to the audio version which was narrated by the author who did a nice job.

Ann (annrumsey) | 17154 comments Sandi I’m glad we picked All the living and the Dead as our group read. It was informative and told in a nice conversational style. Some of the details were things I suspected, and her research and conversations with the various groups really added to the enjoyment.

I agree it was really informative but also a compelling listen. So glad it was a group read because it was not something I would have found on my own.
