Elizabeth Meadows (lizziefaye) | 424 comments At some point in this section I finally realized that the symbols at the beginning of each section actually represent each of the 3 main characters according to their special attributes. LOL! I know those symbols were used in Hatch, but I didn't really pay attention to the fact that they were different and that they matched each character. Were those symbols also used in Bloom? I listened to it on audio, so I didn't pay attention to the printed version.
I am enjoying Thrive a little more than the Hatch because the story line is finally starting to gel for me. I read Hatch in such small snippets that I'm sure I missed some things. With the arrival of the Cryptogens I've really tuned into what is happening and gotten much more interested. They are very interesting characters. The use of ze and zir is something I've never encountered before and had difficulty at first reading it and making it flow in my head.
The author is really making use of intense chapter endings with such lines as "Stay still or I'll shoot you," at the end of chapter 7 and "The helicopter was gone," at the end of chapter 8. When I got to the end of chapter 7 and saw that chapter 8 went to another character, I had to skip over and see what happened next with Seth before continuing on with Chapter 8.

Yes, I do believe these symbols and chapter heading artwork have been used in all three books. I definitely remember them in Hatch.
