Mystery/Thriller Reading Friends discussion

I just finished this, and read a review that pretty much mirrors my feelings about the book. (short version- an improvement)

The review makes the book sound interesting. I’m not a big fan of co-authored books but a planning on reading this one.

Good to hear Barry! (The improvement) I may skip ahead to give it a try, fully knowing it will drive read-in-order purists a bit batty.

I agree- they seem to have found their groove in this one. hope it continues to get better!

Hahaha Sherry I’m starting book 25 now. So far in order ……after the first books long ago were not!

I finished this one a couple days ago. If this would have been my first Lee Child book I wouldn’t read another. To many characters, to much unnecessary dialogue. I found it boring 😩

I’m getting closer to reading it. I bowed to pressure to read in order (and Sherry’s bestowing of Capital letters as encouragement) to get caught up first, so I recently finished The Sentinel. It was an ok listen. Sometimes a book with Scott Brick as narrator fits my mood well and it did in this case. Now on to Better Off Dead before No Plan B. I need a Reacher break though, not sure when I’ll get to those two- by the end of the year hopefully. Isn’t it odd to say that and it’s only a few weeks away.

I finally got to No Plan B! (In order) lol.
I read the review Barry shared, and agree with the sentiments in general and that this one is getting back to the more usual Reacher.

That being said, there are a few things that annoyed me.
Not really spoilers for this one, but please stop showing Reacher as clueless about cell phones. He doesn't have to own one, ok to not know the exact buttons to push, but knowing basics of what they can do shouldn't be a mystery.

Well I finally got to this 1-1/2 years later, LOL. If I had known there were zero spoilers in this thread I would have read it sooner. As it was it sat there unread, tantalizing me, and I finally put this on my Determination List and read it.

I didn't feel as strongly about the three co-written books but I mostly agreed with the reviewer. One quibble about the review; did he have to recount 2/3 of the plot before he got to the analysis? I stop reading those kind of reviews after the first paragraph if I haven't read the book. I agree that how Reacher comes across in these books is getting a little monotonous. If I had a dollar for every time "Reacher said nothing" is uttered I'd be a wealthy woman. Well maybe not wealthy but I'd at least be able to upgrade to First Class on my next trip, LOL.

One nifty piece of plotting that I enjoyed: (view spoiler)[For the entire book we were led to believe that Emerson's addict son died of an overdose. I loved the surprise that he died from a faulty liver transplant he needed because of his addiction. (hide spoiler)]

Carol, good for you! I did get to #28 and am therefore ready for #29 this fall. I didn’t read #25 yet though so still treading on the UOOOR side of the street LOL
