52 A Book Published in 2023

PopSugar Prompt 1: A book you meant to read in 2022
Library1000 Prompt 51: A Book where the Chapters have Titles
Book:

Dreams of Gods & Monsters
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts: A solid, happy ending for most everyone. I did feel the end of the book was a tad rushed, but I think that's because I've read Stone of Tears by Terry Goodkind which used an entire book to tell the same thing that happens in the last 2 chapters of Dreams of Gods and Monsters. Mik and Zuz? Still my favorites

ATY2023 Prompt 1: A book set in a location that begins with A, T, or Y (Antarctica)
Book:

Where'd You Go, Bernadette
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts:
Bernadette can come over to my house for tea, any day she wants. The story, the backstory, the mystery? All of it was fantastic, and I love that it was told through letters and emails.

Library1000 Prompt 1: A Book by an Author that Shares Your Initials
Book:

City of Lost Souls
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts: Why do I keep torturing myself with this series? Or rather, why do I expect good chemistry in a YA novel. The "Will they, won't they?" intrigue of Jace and Clary wore off by book 3. At this point, I'm here for Magnus, and this book broke his heart, so...

PopSugar Prompt 2: A book you bought from an independent bookstore (bought at Inner Geek!)
Book:

Uzumaki
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts: I love that this is apparently like some horrible thing that just consumes this town every so often, and how the one-off horrors from the first half of the book culminate into the hellscape that is the last few chapters.

ATY2023 Prompt 2: A book by an author you read in 2022
Book:

The Darkest Part of the Forest
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts: Having read the Folk of the Air series first, it was really cool to see where Severin came from, and also now I want to see Jude and Hazel pal around reeking human chaos on the fae.

ATY2023 Prompt 15: Three books, each of which is set in a different century: Book 1
Library1000 Prompt 2: A Book with Girl / Woman in the Title
Book:

Girl with a Pearl Earring
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts: I really like the romance angle in this. Because it's very, very subtle between Griet and Vermeer, to the point that you question "Was he actually into Griet, or was he just that obsessed with his painting?"

ATY2023 Prompt 4: A book with an interracial relationship
Library1000 Prompt 17: A Book that Inspired a Movie / TV Series that You've Already Seen
Book:

Holes
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts: Yes, I hadn't read Holes until this year. I've seen the movie plenty of times. Loved the book as much as I loved the movie when I was younger.

ATY2023 Prompt 46: A title that contains a word often found in a recipe
Book:

The Priory of the Orange Tree
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts: A super slow-burn, high fantasy sapphic romance with warring dragons, magic fruit, and witch-clones? Yes please. I love Eadaz and her attitude of "Why are all of you dumb?" throughout the novel.

Library1000 Prompt 3: A Book referencing a Zodiac Sign
Book:

The Scorpio Races
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts: I'm a pony girl at heart, and combine the ponies with celtic mythology of Kelpies, and an actually good YA romance, and I'm in love.

ATY2023 Prompt 5: A book with 4 or more colors on the cover
Book:

Six Crimson Cranes
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts: An Eastern mythology take on The Six Swans from the Brothers Grimm. I loved the story in Juliet Mariller's Daughter of the Forest, and I love this take on it as well.

ATY2023 Prompt 3: A book that fits a suggestion that didn’t make the 2023 list
PopSugar Prompt 17: A Book with a Love Triangle
Book:

The Selection
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

ATY2023 Prompt 33 - A book by an author with a first name popular in 1923
PopSugar Prompt 3 - A book about a vacation
Book:

The Woman in Cabin 10
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Library1000 Prompt 4 -A book about business / management
Book:

The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Library1000 Prompt 5 - A Book with Rabbit / Bunny in the Title or on the Cover
Book:

Watership Down
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Library1000 Prompt 28 - 2 Books with Antonyms in the Title - Book 1
Book:

Queen of Shadows
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Library1000 Prompt 9 - A Book by an author you've previous read
Book:

Tuesdays with Morrie
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

PopSugar Prompt 26 - The shortest book (by pages) on your TBR list
Book:

The Prophet
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Library1000 Prompt 6 - A Book About / Set in the Spring Season
Book:

Paper Towns
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

ATY Prompt 49 - A book posted in one of the ATY Best Book of the Month threads in 2022 or 2023
Book:

Verity
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

ATY Prompt 30 - A book related to a chess piece
Book:

How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
&
Library1000 Prompt 7 - A book published before the 20th century
Book:

King Lear
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

ATY Prompt 9 - A book nominated for an award beginning with W
Book:

Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Library1000 Prompt 13 - A Book That Reminds You of Water
Book:

The Ocean at the End of the Lane
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts: I love the way Gaiman blends the mundane with the fantastical. The fact the protagonist remained unnamed was interesting, but I think the way memory was used to separate the "real" from the mythic was the best part of this book.

PopSugar Prompt 10 - A romance with a fat lead
Book:

Radiant Sin
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts: Kateeeeeeee! Excuse me, I need to fan myself with my book for a bit. The drama of Olympus continues to be an excellent backdrop for Katee Roberts' excellent spice scenes.

ATY Prompt 6 - A book where books are important
Book:

The Eyre Affair
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts: If you liked Douglas Adams but went "it needs more time on Earth and more classic literature references!" this might be a series you want to start. Honestly, I'm just amused by Jack Schitt.

PopSugar Prompt 41 - A book written during NaNoWriMo
Book:

Legends & Lattes
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts: Cozy fantasy is honestly one of my favorite new blends. Taking the coffee shop AU tag from AO3 into an actual book? And it's adorable with just enough action and drama to keep you hooked? More of this please!

PopSugar Prompt 5 - A book with mythical creatures
Book:

To Kill a Kingdom
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts: If Ariel has been raised by Ursula, and Eric was more pirate than prince, this might be the result. I always love new takes on the mythical sirens, and this one has a very sardonic, slow burn romance that's really good.

Library1000 Prompt 8 - A Book that is more than 500 or less than 100 pages long
Book:

The Passage
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts: I rather liked the way the 12 were portrayed, more like central heads to their hoards than simple sires to a bunch of vamplings. In a way, it reminds me of how the vampire brides act in Dracula, as opposed to the more modern version where anyone turned maintains a semblance of their personality.

Library1000 Prompt 10 - A Book Published Less Than 5 Years Ago
Book:

The Stolen Heir
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts: Suren is a really good blend of angry and hopeful, I just sort of wish that Oak was as interesting a foil to her as Cardan is to Jude or Severin is to Hazel. Maybe the second book will give Oak more time to develop a personality worth something?

Library1000 Prompt 14 - A Book from a Celebrity Book Club (Oprah, Witherspoon, etc.)
Book:

Educated
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts: Certainly an interesting look into the power of curiosity and the drive to learn in a woman who could have fallen through the cracks.

ATY2023 Prompt 12 - A book connected to birds, bees, or bunnies
Book:

The Nightingale
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts: I had to look up resistance routes from France while reading this book, because I saw that the author had based the Nightingale route on multiple women of the resistance. The book blends the history with the lives of its fictional cast so well.

ATY2023 Prompt 34 - A novella
Book:

Anthem
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts: You can definitely tell that this book was written as a sort of fear against communism. The main character, Equality 7-2521, explores the concept of the self versus the will of the collective, in a way that is certainly more philosophical than the fear-based narratives of later dystopias.

ATY2023 Prompt 14 - A book with a con, deception, or fake
Book:

The Lies of Locke Lamora
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts: I love, love, love the Gentleman Bastards. The interweaving of their childhood and how it affected the current scheme? Excellent. The whole mess with the Grey King? Fantastical. Will I now figure some way for Red Seas Under Red Skies to be part of my year's reading? You bet.

PopSugar Prompt 44 - A book that was self-published
Book:

The Atlas Six
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts:
I've read a few other more modern dark academia books, like The Magicians and Secret History. This is probably the first time I actually like some of the people. While they're all very flawed people, I loved the interactions and backstabbing more than I thought I would.

ATY2023 Prompt 43 - A book that involves a murder
Book:

The Mysterious Affair At Styles
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts: It's really interesting seeing the first introduction of Poirot after I've already read Orient Express. I can say that I called the involvement of 2 of the people, but not the actual murderers.

PopSugar Prompt 6 - A book about a forbidden romance
Book:

These Violent Delights
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts:
I liked the idea of a Romeo and Juliet remake in Shanghai during the 1920s, but this book was far too busy. There's the gang fights, the communist takeover, and the fantasy element of the monster and bug combo. I can understand giving Roma and Juliette a common goal, but that could be against the monster alone, without the needed extra threat of the communist party (or vice versa). It's just really busy.

PopSugar Prompt 11 - A book about or set in Hollywood
Book:

The Big Sleep
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts: I guess I'm not much for hard-boiled detectives from the 1930s-40s. Or it could just be that the whole mess with Carmen just rubbed me the wrong way.

ATY2023 prompt 7 - A book with ONE of the five "W" question words in the title
Book:

This is Where I Leave You
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts: Ok, so the book was far too raunchy, but it was definitely told in the tone of a man that never grew out of his sex-driven 20s. And honestly, the humor hit just enough to keep me interested.

Library1000 Prompt 18 - A Fairytale Retelling
Book:

Fairest
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts: I thought "Oh no, Marissa Meyer is going to give Levana a sympathetic backstory" before I started the book. NOPE. Oh my god, if nothing else, kind of makes me hate her just the teensie-weensiest more than I already did.

PopSugar Prompt 7 - A book with "Girl" in the title
Book:

Fangirl
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts: I've written fanfiction before, and I know the feeling of responding to your readers. Maybe never to the level that Cath gets, but it felt like dipping back into my freshman self again. And honestly, Levi? Him whispering "Read to me, Sweetheart" just... so good.

PopSugar Prompt 16 - A book where the main character's name is in the title
Book:

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts: Definitely not what I thought I was getting into when I started this book. It's definitely an interesting look at Hollywood through the facet of a star of the 50-80s. I think the only thing Reid didn't touch on was the rise of slasher films in the 70s, but that might have been because Evelyn had aged out of the babysitter role by then.

ATY2023 Prompt 16 - Three books, each of which is set in a different century: Book 2
Book:

The Guest List
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts: I always love a closed room murder, and this one has plenty of suspects, even when you don't know who the victim is until the very end of the book.

ATY2023 Prompt 32 - A book set in a UNESCO City of Literature (Norwich)
PopSugar Prompt 15 - A book with a song lyric as its title
Book:

Never Let Me Go
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thoughts: I think what throws me the most about this novel is how completely mundane the author makes the children out to be. How apparently the whole organ-donor-farming scenario is so engrained into society, that no one raises an eyebrow over it. It's both fascinating and horrifying.
