We quickly shift to the present where he’s returning to his home after rescuing a 15-year old girl from a truck stop, is injured and is trying to avoid scrutiny by his neighbors. Were you able to begin developing a sense of this man, especially after he entered into and described his unit?

I enjoyed this book, but I'm already having a hard time remembering big parts of it.

I remember thinking that he lives in this building but more or less keeps totally to himself. He doesn't know his neighbors, though they try to include him in building activities. I think they are very curious about him.

As far as his apartment, everything has been changed to his specifications. It reminded me of a "safe room" that the rich have put in their homes in case of intruders.

I found it interesting that he knew about his neighbors but they really had no idea about anything about him. It's as if he is an observer within the apartment building. Not that anyone else is aware of this.

I do agree with Robin - his apartment does remind you of a safe room.

I became clear once he got in that elevator that it was important to Evan that he appear normal amongst his neighbors and that he seemed to know everything about them. When he described his apartment, I thought it a fortress but a safe room is a much better description.

His apartment is too sterile. The only living things he interacts with are the plants he keeps alive. That is so sad

I recognized his house as being his retreat. He set up every safety feature and extra protection every where possible. I found it interesting that he loved this house, but he was ready to leave at the drop of a hat. It is more than a safe room, in my opinion. He is in the penthouse.

He is a researcher. He knows everything about his neighbors, which is another type of protection.
