Hello and welcome to the seventh edition of Wheels!

For those who haven't yet played this challenge, it's a fun spell-out challenge where we get bonus points for reading books with a specific cover colour and/or specific shelf tags. Generally, you can read whatever you like and books will automatically fit one of the letters we need for the spell-out.

The words we're spelling out in this edition of Wheels will be titles of previous books of the month that have been read within the group.

Our team name is of course also taken from a previous BOM, namely Red Sister by Mark Lawrence, a really good fantasy novel with probably one of the best opening lines ever hehe. Have any of you read this book or even the entire trilogy?

Alright, on to business! ;-)

Our first word is The Last House on Needless Street.
The cover colour we're looking for is red (over 50% this colour, so the redder the better!) and our shelf is Space Opera.

Please share your challenge shelf, thanks!

Once you have finished a book, please post a completion post with all the necessary information included and as many spell-out options as possible in case we need to switch things around on the spreadsheet to make all the books fit.

While I did mention that you can generally read whatever you want and it will usually fit somehow, please bear in mind that we have SEVEN E's to read for this round just to spell the title out once. So hunt out those Es :-D

Read the rules carefully. If you're unsure, read them again. If you still have questions, feel free to ask! Captains are here to help! :-)

LaurLa | 2437 comments Hello Red Sisters! And hello Eldarwen! It's always a joy to be on a team with you as captain 🥰

I just finished an E yesterday! What was I thinking? Ah but I will have to hunt down some others for the rest of the month!

Here is my shelf: nbrc-wheel-7

Can't wait to start!

Now you did it. I'm pretty sure the powers that be already are taking notes!

Btw, I thought the same thing. But regarding team names. And now you made me do it too!

*harrumphs*

*waves to E*

Anyway, Team Cemetery Boys got same spelling, so, we might get some peekaboo at each others spreadsheets. Just a heads up, our three captains are lgbt readers, so, our E's and space-opera books may have that tag too (I know mine have)

E, we're taking a page of your book and using completion posts only.

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 2112 comments Hello team!
I'm Keely, one of your co-captains. This will be my first time being a co-captain, but I am here to help.
I am from the UK but I currently work part time on night shifts so I will be online all sorts of hours but mostly when it is daytime in the US.

I've already planned out a red book to begin with, but I'm not sure if it has any E's. And I don't think I own any Space Operas, but I do have Audible Plus so if anyone knows of any on there, I could probably get one read.

Anyway enough from me now. I'll add a link to my shelf a bit later as I am currently on my phone, but I am looking forward to playing with you all!

Good to have you on board, as always, LaurLa! :-D

Haha, noooo, shame on you! Why did you read a previous E book?? :-p
Plenty of those out there, I hope!

Hehehe, we are always taking notes ;-)
Not like you are/were any better hehe.

Oh yay, that's cool to hear. I hope the completion posts work out for you! :-)

Good thinking! :-D
I should start hunting down some covers or at least some E's.
Space Opera isn't something I own a lot of either, if at all, so will have to see.

Shelby (stang_lee) | 2035 comments Hey all! I'm Shelby you're other co-captain and super excited to get started with you all. I'm out in LA so typically the last bastion of updates since I'm in that late timezone being on the west coast. I'm an actor/producer out here so I spend a fair bit of my time bartending and my schedule ends up being all over the map. I've been a captain in a number of challenges around here so please feel free to ask any questions, I'm happy to help. My OCD always loves wheel and trying to organize the heck out of our books. ;)

I've got us handled with at least 2 Space Opera books to start with as I've got Aurora's End and Nona the Ninth to read as they're library books anyway. :)

As Eldarwen mentioned Red Sister has probably the greatest opening line of all time. I adored the entire trilogy and absolutely recommend any one who hasn't read it yet to check it out. And heck if we were getting points for reading our team names I'd absolutely re-read it. Fantastic series.

message 17: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 2112 comments Honestly, I had never heard of Red Sister before this. I would be happy to read it to see what the fuss is about, even more so if we get bonus points.
I will give pretty much any book a go. I started the year trying to clear off as many books from my TBR that I added in 2012 which was mostly classics. I found that I find many of the classics boring so this latter half of the year has been a right mixture of things.
I'll probably still read at least one classic as I still have some longer ones to get through and what better motivation to read them than lots of points for my team!

message 18: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1578 comments Hi Red Sister! When I saw the names I thought that would be nice but didn't expect to actually be on the team. I've read the trilogy and loved it. Would also re-read if there were points for that. I might pick up some other Mark Lawrence though.

I'm from North Carolina and I'll likely be checking in throughout the week but will post mostly on the weekends.

This is my 5th year participating in Wheel. I'm currently participating in National Novel Writing Month so have my weekly reading much lower than I would normally for a challenge. Space opera is not something I read, unless for a challenge.

Here is my shelf: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

I'm just not sure I'm going to manage to go to the shop to pick it up (my order came in yesterday actually) in time to finish it before the round ends.

I'm from Estonia and can't wait to start! I usually check GR every day, but I post mostly on the weekends or whenever I have enough time.
I haven't read the Red Sister trilogy, it's on my TBR. But lately, I'm not in the sci-fi mood.

NaNo is going pretty well this year (writing goal) story wise I might be going in circles. That's what editing is for (if I ever get around to it.)

If your doing it this year how is it for you?

I've never heard of the book our team is named for. I read mostly romance, with mystery and a bit of other stuff thrown in for challenges. I'm not into the Space Opera genre, but will see if I can find something to contribute. I have found a bunch of E books!

Exactly, that's what editing is for. The words are what counts for the moment :-)
I'm really behind this year so far but haven't had the motivation to write much because I didn't have a clue what I was going to do yet. That is slowly coming together, and now the writing is starting to flow. Still got lots of time anyway, so nothing to worry about hehe.

message 33: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 2112 comments I'm also trying to finish my current book, but I'm not sure I'm going to quite make it by the start time. I'll start my next book straight after though if this challenge has already begun by then

Also, don't forget that there will be two BOMs during the course of this challenge! Which means, extra points!

Apples Never Fall by Liane Moriarty will start on 16th November.

If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio will start on 2nd December.

Eta: Scratch the extra points part - there will be no bonus points for participating in BOMs for this challenge this time around. But that doesn't mean you cannot participate if the books sound like something you'd enjoy :-)

I've done the Wheel challenge a few times now and love how much these help boost my reading. I'm way behind on my challenge for this year, so I'm hoping this will help.

Looking forward to getting to know all of you and to being on the Red Sister team!

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 2112 comments I believe we are all now checked in!

I am also very behind on my challenge for the year (13 books to be exact) D:

I will be beginning with Far from the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy which is at least 50% red, is a nice 512 pages and has a character who's surname begins with E!

I think I'm going to start with an E book, no red cover though or space opera tag unfortunately. But one of the many Es we need at least hehe.

Poison Promise (Elemental Assassin, #11) by Jennifer Estep

I may yet change my mind... but this is on my radar as a starter book at least.

Also, I've signed up to participate in the next BOM, which I'll finish for next week's round.

Annalisa | 1578 comments I'm going to be starting with two library holds that came in. I don't know that I will finish the audio by the end of the week. It will really depend on what my work week ends up looking like. Atlas of the Heart Mapping Meaningful Connection and the Language of Human Experience by Brené Brown - This is the audiobook and I know it has a red cover so I might be able to make it through if we really need it.
Bombshell (Hell's Belles, #1) by Sarah MacLean - As an ebook I'll get through this a little faster.

message 45: by Sharon (new)

Sharon (sharon_alexandr) | 557 comments I started Mad Honey today - it's due back at the library on Thursday. I think I'm going to be in the car a lot this week, so I'll see if I can find an audiobook that will work for an E. One of the BOMS is on my TBR shelf so I'll see if I can get a copy.

Inquiring minds would like to know, what exactly is a space opera??

message 46: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (radf) | 1165 comments Hello everyone,
I've participated in Wheel before but took last year off because I've been going through an on again off again reading slump unfortunately. I played Tower recently which helped so I'm hoping that this challenge will help as well.
I tend to work long hours but when I get my reading time in I can do some damage lol I read pretty much anything except high science fiction (but never really gave it justice). Space opera isn't one of my faves BUT I will do whatever it takes for a challenge.
Looking forward to having some laughs in the next month or so with all of you. Happy reading everyone!

Consider it a mixture between soap opera and science fiction, if you will hehe.
As the name suggests, space opera is usually set in space, but it isn't just about the sci-fi and space parts of the story, there is a lot of (melo)drama and such going on as well.

If you take the example of Aurora Rising, you have lots of drama, teens trying to figure out life just like any other YA basically, but set in space with some extra adventures and non-humans etc. That one is actually really good :-)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 2112 comments I've been asked to work tonight so my plans of a day of reading have gone out the window. I should still get a couple of hours reading time in, but I had hoped to finish my first book today. On the other hand it will be more money for me (literally the only reason I said yes)
