Good idea for a topic!
This is big local news. The case was before my time but from the way my dad talks about it, her death was a big deal at the time. Now I think they are looking for more information on the man she was married to at the time of her death who is also deceased.

He may have been hunted in the Poconos, but he was arrested in Scranton, which is not in the Poconos. Toby from The Office must be beside himself.

I am actually a bit surprised. I assumed she was never going to get out.

That was my assumption as well.

So I looked up how she got out, just copied this from her wikipedia page:
On November 9, 2021, Van Houten was recommended for parole by a parole board.[61] On March 29, 2022, Governor Newsom overruled the parole board's recommendation.[62]
Her request for review was rejected by the California Supreme Court on February 9, 2022.[63]
On May 30, 2023, a California Court of Appeal in Los Angeles set aside Governor Newsom's denial of Van Houten's parole, thus becoming the first Manson family member to have a Court rule in her favor for a parole recommendation.[64] On July 7, 2023, Governor Newsom announced that he would not appeal the California Supreme Court to block her parole, paving the way for her release.[65] Van Houten was released on parole on July 11, 2023.[4]

There are so many red flags, in that article, that I don't know where to begin.

I love the cases being solved by familial DNA. But, so many times the suspects have escaped justice by dying before the truth was known.

What always gets me about Dennis Rader is he literally could have gotten away with all the murders if he didn't have the itch to brag about it and write letters to the police like an idiot.
I am genuinely a big fan of true crime to include books, TV and movies. I enjoy the fabled old pioneers of the FBI's Behavioral Science Unit, the father of profiling serial killers Robert Ressler, Douglas, Hazelwood. Their books are excellent, certainly recounting their face time interviewing Ed Kemper and other infamous serial killers. Small Sacrifices by Ann Rule is my favorite true crime novel and the movie adaptation starring Farrah Fawcett is simply sensational.

I actually remember reading about this case. The guy is super creepy and the details of the crime he was convicted for certainly leads one to believe that he is a good suspect for the other unsolved murders.
On a side note, does anyone else find it difficult to take something called the "Super Intensive Supervision Program (SISP)" seriously? Sounds like a department that would appear in a children's book.

She (and her partner) sound vicious but perhaps are not the sharpest tools in the shed. I can't believe that she went out to eat in a pizzeria a day after she wanted people to believe that her body had been found. 🤷

If anyone has seen the Disappearance of Crystal Rogers docuseries (2018)....you may find this news (finally!) interesting and good to know. Three men will finally stand trial for her murder. Hopefully this will lead to solving her sweet father's murder also: https://www.wdrb.com/in-depth/3-men-c...

Very. Genetic genealogy is fascinating!
It's helped solve so many cold cases over the last several years: BTK, Golden State Killer, Grim Sleeper, Happy Face... and hundreds more.

There was a true crime mini series on A&E a few years back where the documentarians were investigating one series of killings, and one of their interviewees was a long haul trucker who told them there was a whole network of killers out there who get their victims off the highways. Sadly, the network never renewed the show for another season, 'cause the filmmakers sounded like they were going to expand their search. Though there were a couple of times the filmmakers were themselves shwoing up on suspects' porches unannounced, so it's also possible they were eventually captured and murdered by an actual killer.....
