LPL Staff Member Laura recommends: For Your Own Good--Downing, Samantha
I picked up this book because I am familiar with this author and really enjoy her books. This book is great because the mystery had me questioning "who done it" continuously. There is one main antagonist, however you will begin to question all the protagonists as well. The ending is very satisfying. People who like fast-paced reads-yet very easy to comprehend-and anyone who likes murder mysteries will like this book. Other books I've read that are similar are: His and Hers by Alice Feeney and My Lovely Wife by Samantha Dowing.
LPL Patron Greg recommends: American Lightning--Blum, Howard
I picked up this book because the story is about a forgotten event early in the 29th century that needs to be told. This book is great because we forget the anarchists were terrorizing America in the late 1800s to mid 20th century. This also details the birth of the motion picture industry People who like film and crime history will like this book. Other books I've read that similar are: Erik Larsson's "Thunderstruck."
LPL Staff Member Laura recommends: His and Hers--Feeney, Alice
I picked this book up because Alice Feeney has become one of my new favorite authors. This mystery had me guessing who the killer was until the very end of the book. The twists take you by surprise to say the least. Very great "page-turner." People who like page-turners, "who done its," and fast paced yest easy to read books will like this book. Rock, Paper, Scissors by Alice Feeney is similar to this book.
LPL Staff Member Robin recommends: Hell Divers--Smith, Nicholas Sansbury
I picked up this book because it's been on my TBR (to-be-read) pile for awhile. Decided to pick it up and read it for "Read Through Your Fears" Reading Challenge Month for the LPL Reading Challenge. The fear associated with this book is heights/jumping out of aircraft. This books has a lot of action to keep you wanting to know what will happen next. Very satisfying post-apocalyptic scyfy book. If this was made into a movie, I would definitely be at the movies to watch. People who like post-apocalyptic, horror, science fiction and dystopian thrillers will like this book. Other books that I have read that are similar will be Jeremy Robinson books.
LPL Staff Member Laura recommends: Rock Paper Scissors--Feeney, Alice
I picked this book up because I like to read books by this author. I like this book because one of the main characters has prosopagnosia, which means a neurological condition characterized by the inability to recognize the faces of familiar people. This story has a very interesting plot twist. Things are not what they seem. Can you figure out the mystery? People who like intricately woven stories with major twist will like this book. Other books similar to this one are My Lovely Wife by Samantha Downing and any book by Alice Feeney.
LPL Staff Member Marcie recommends: The Dead Romantics--Poston, Ashley
I picked up this book because reviews said it was charming and the topic was unique. This book is great because the dark humor was fun and the plot had some unique twists. People who like darker humor and romance will like this book.
LPL Staff Member Laura recommends: House of Ashes--Neville, Stuart
I picked up this book because it was on Gold Nugget display and I have enjoyed all books from that shelf. This book goes back and forth from the present times to the past. The book is an easy read, yet cryptic at the same time. Though the story is pretty dark, it paves the way for a great and rewarding end. People who like period pieces, dark and suspenseful secrets will like this book.
