Underground Knowledge — A discussion group discussion

Hi everyone,

There is a new Group in town. "Poverty Eradication" will deal with all aspects of Poverty, from Taxation, Inflation, Interest rates to Entrepreneurship, Social Programs, Wage, Income and much more.

If you would like to help being a moderator, please contact me (and explain why).

For my part, this topic has always interested me, but I never understood exactly why. Maybe because I don't agree with much of what is done and is not done.

But in 2012, there was a period when I was unemployed, and with so much idle time I started looking for courses when, one day, an opportunity for attending Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo's course, Fighting Global Poverty came up.

On this occasion I learned that "our common sense" don't work with the poor, and how much I didn't know about the subject at all. Recently I decided to write my third book, on poverty. Today, most of my articles are being publicated in portuguese for Brazilian newspapers and magazines, almost exclusively on this topic.

As days pass, it doesn't get boring, and I have been discovering more and more passion for this topic (although I still don't understand why, it just is).

But unfortunetely, I never had the opportunity to debate with others , listen to and understand opposing opinions (and preferably well-founded ones), and have contact with people who challenge mine.

That's when, less than a week ago, I discovered Goodreads and here we are.

Daniel - I wish you well with your new group Poverty Eradication! What an excellent cause. Hopefully, you will find recruits for the group from among this group's Undergrounders.
