At first, we had no idea where Beth was. I knew they were going to intersect at some point but couldn't see where or when. Those early scenes with Beth killing so she would stay alive were frightening and sickening.
I remembered most of the story from reading it previously. So I knew that the guy who was kidnapping and torturing these women would eventually take someone from the training mission.
The book description indicates that there is a serial killer subplot, so I knew that she was a victim. My question throughout these early scenes was whether or not the woman found in Tracey's jacket (also in the blurb) was Beth or someone else. I became attached to Beth due to her strength and resilience, so I wanted it to be one of the earlier victims.
I blocked these scenes out from my first read so I couldn’t recall if someone from the teams was abducted. Actually, I was scared it was Lindsey and she’d have to fight it out with Beth.
These scenes were so disturbing I could barely listen. They were much worse on audio. Made me just power through them.
I admired Beth and felt so bad for her. Not sure she’ll ever fully recover.

I'm with you, Jonetta. The scenes with Beth were disconcerting. I had to walk away from the story for a few minutes after that first kill. The audio made the story feel so real. I also thought that Lindsay was going to be the person who linked the two plots together. I wondered how Lindsay would escape without killing Beth.
I agree, the audio make these scenes so chilling and real. I also agree that Beth may never fully recover. What a nightmare to live through.

I had to turn the book off for awhile and watch a Christmas movie.

She’s so deeply traumatized.
