I added to the list Spirit of a Hummingbird: Memories from a Childhood on the Run by Felicia Thai Heath, as she is a new author, but definitely qualifies. It is currently on page 3 of the list.

Can I use this book even though I was the one who added it to the list?

I started reading the graphic novel adaptation of Parable of the Sower: A Graphic Novel Adaptation before I'd double-checked this task. Does this adaptation work? Octavia E. Butler, who appears on page 1 of the list, is listed as an author, and it's over the 100 page graphic novel requirement. Thanks!
