Congrats!

I haven't hit any yet-I'd love to hit 100 this year, I'm at 58 right now :)

message 4: by Kaitlyn (new)

Kaitlyn Utkewicz | 20 comments I'm reading my 50th right now. I'm a student so it is hard for me to get reading done outside of school work. I try to get at least an hour in every night but sometimes it's hard. Hoping to hit 100 by next December, but that may be a lofty goal.

Winter (winter9) | 204 comments 20 today:) started the list for real this year in febryary, so quite happy with that:)

message 6: by Nathan (new)

Nathan | 45 comments Book #1 Aaron's Rod by D.H. Lawrence
Book #50 At Swim, Two Boys by Jamie O'Neill
Book #100 The Book of Illusions by Paul Auster
Currently reading #125 Camilla by Fanny Burney

Katherine (katats) | 150 comments I like the way you broke that down, Nathan! It's nice to revisit which ones pushed you over the milestone marks. Here's mine:

Book #50 The Unconsoled by Kazuo Ishiguro
Book #100 The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle
Book #150 Vathek by William Beckford
...working on 160 right now...

I was going to say the same thing, I like it too Nathan! I didn't think to mark which book was which, but now maybe I will start doing that. When I started the list I had only read around 39 books, so I can't really put those ones in order. And I haven't hit the 50 mark yet.

I am saving Vathek for Haloween I think together with Dracula and possibly J. and Hyde. Did you like Vathek?

message 10: by Winter (last edited May 31, 2015 08:17AM) (new)

Winter (winter9) | 204 comments My breakdown, short since all is read this year, I am re-reading every one I had completed, started totally over:

Book 1: Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
Book 10: A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift
Book 20: The Shining by Stephen King
Book 25: Heart of Darkness, Joseph Conrad

message 11: by Katherine (new)

Katherine (katats) | 150 comments Hey Winter, Vathek wasn't my favorite list book I've read this year, but I found it more enjoyable than other similar books from the same time period.

It's interesting that you are saving it for the Halloween season. On paper it does sound like a spooky tale, but I actually found it to be more of a story about morality and deference, with some pretty graphic imagery along the way. Jeckyll and Hyde, however, was much scarier than I expected, especially since I thought I knew the story. That would be a great Halloween read!

Didn't think it was so scary from the little I know, it was more the theme that made me put it then.
Definetely saving Jeckyll and Hyde then!

message 28: by Katherine (new)

Katherine (katats) | 150 comments I just hit 175, and have read 32 this year. Since focusing on list books I haven't read more than 16 in a single year, so doubling that feels pretty good to me. I can now listen to audiobooks while at work, so I hope to put an even bigger dent in that number by the end of the year.

message 29: by Winter (new)

Winter (winter9) | 204 comments That's a great number Katherine, grats! Best book this year?

My best so far is Never Let Me Go

33 so far, my first real year, decided to read the ones I have read before too.

message 30: by Robin (last edited Oct 04, 2015 03:12AM) (new)

Robin | 20 comments I just read my 50th list book, one from my home country.

1. Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren
10. Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy
25. Moby-Dick; or, The Whale by Herman Melville
50. Rituals by Cees Nooteboom

I wanted to read 20 list books this year and thereby reach number 54, but I think I will reach at least number 60.

Me too. 35 read now, I have read a lot of other books also this year. Finished Bleak House, really pleased with that, it required a lot, so felt like an achievement ^^

I hope to knock out two more list books by the end of the year. The Turn of the Screw and Embers.

Congratulations. I hope to hit the 200 mark myself about the end of this yr or early next. I'm enjoying the journey. When I finish the 2 I'm over half through, I'll be at 182.

Nice! I'm tackling some of the longer reads this year so my pace is quite slow, but yes, it's an enjoyable journey for sure!

message 48: by Melanti (last edited Jul 02, 2016 02:39PM) (new)

Melanti | 50 comments After pecking away at the list for the past few years, I recently finished #200 - The Name of the Rose.

A book about books as a major milestone in reading a list derived from a book about books. It wasn't planned, but it's certainly fitting!

message 49: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Dawn | 269 comments Started in summer 2014 and just reached #400 with Les Miserables! I've been listening to a lot of audiobooks while I study/in the lab (science student) , and admittedly have been reading a lot of shorter ones, but 400 none the less :)

message 50: by Nicola (new)
