Denise (derickert) | 1272 comments Completed #25 The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner , gave it 4 stars. A very engaging and entertaining historical novel. The story jumps effortlessly from past to present. It is full of mystery and self discovery. I was drawn more to the story in the past than the present.

Denise (derickert) | 1272 comments Completed #15 Skipping Christmas by John Grisham , gave it 4 stars. Skipping Christmas is a novel idea that I may have to do one day. This was a witty story that kept me entertained from beginning to end. I enjoyed the characters Luther and Nora, but some of the neighbors were a little aggressive.

Denise (derickert) | 1272 comments Completed #26 Once Upon a December by Amy E. Reichert , gave it 5 stars. A beautiful story of love set during Christmas time. This book will warm your heart and take you away to a magical place. I have read almost all of her previous books and this one ranks up at the top. The dog Bernie was one of my favorite characters. I could easily see this book made into a Hallmark movie.

Denise (derickert) | 1272 comments Completed #5. NYPD Red 7 The Murder Sorority (NYPD Red #7) by Marshall Karp , gave it 4 stars. I love this series and this one did not disappoint. It was fast moving and multiple intertwined parts that are wrapped up like a nice bow by the end. The story will draw you in right up to the last page. I look forward to the next one in this series.

Denise (derickert) | 1272 comments Finished #14 Night (The Night Trilogy, #1) by Elie Wiesel , gave it 5 stars. This was an exceptional memoir about the horrors that happened at the concentration camps during WWII. It is quite disturbing to read about the atrocities that happened, but a must read in order to understand what happened and to know what really happened. You are able to feel the pain, suffering and loss that this survivor underwent while being tortured during this time.

Denise (derickert) | 1272 comments Completed #12 The Challenge by Danielle Steel , gave it 4 stars. I love Danielle Steel books and this one did not disappoint. The story is fast paced, at times a little too much. I think that more focus could have been made on the kids getting lost in the mountains rather than the life after. The second half of the book explores the aftermath and was a typical love story with drama and cheating. The ending also seemed a bit rushed to me with too many neat bows.

Thank Andrea. I preplanned books but then realized the ones that I was reading this month fell into a lot of the categories. I wasn't trying to rush thru this challenge.

Denise (derickert) | 1272 comments Finished #3 Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur , gave it 4 stars. Word are powerful and this poetry collection was just that. It is amazing how one can put together words that just speak to you. I don't normally read poetry, but I enjoyed this collection very much. Some of the poetry was a little too erotic for me, but others were like they were reading the thoughts in my mind and were articulated on paper. What I took from her words are that we don't need a man to get thru life and to love ourselves first.

Denise (derickert) | 1272 comments Completed #8. The Atlas Six (The Atlas, #1) by Olivie Blake ,4 stars. I loved the character development in this story, this was also part of the downfall of the story as the plot was slow to get to. Much of the book is centered between 7 POV's that it can get confusing where you are and what you are reading. By the end of the book the plot starts to make sense. I hope that the second book answers some of the questions that still need answered.

Denise (derickert) | 1272 comments Finished The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County by Mark Twain , 4 stars. I was introduced to Mark Twain in Jr High and I still enjoy reading his stories. He writes as if he is talking right to you telling his stories. I enjoyed the humor he puts in and the imagination that he has.
