The book is written in the form of letters to the main characters former Jungian analyst. The story follows the main character, Lucas Goodgame, in the aftermath of a tragedy in a small town, Majestic, PA. While people gathered to watch 'It's a Wonderful Life' in the historic theatre in town, a teenager entered and struck down 17 people in a mass shooting.
The letters take you through what one of the survivors are going through after. The town ends up coming together to work with the younger brother of the shooter to heal together.
It is a tough but beautiful story. The beginning dragged a little and made me lean towards giving it 4 starts but the ending was so, so painfully beautiful that I couldn't help but give it 5 stars. Any time a book makes me cry, it gets 5 stars. And the ending of this book definitely made be cry for what a great ending it is.
