Hi Janice! For Task 1 - Read a book with the moon on the cover or in the title.
Is the moon prominent enough on the cover?
For the book on the American Civil War…is My Name Is Mary Sutter ok or are you looking for nonfiction? The above book is historical fiction.
For the "twist" task does it have to mention the twist in the GR blurb? Because on my library blurb for Shylock is My Name is says the following,"Culminating in a shocking twist on Shylock's demand for the infamous pound of flesh, Jacobsen's insightful retelling examines contemporary acutely relevant questions..."
But the GR blurb is different
That will be sufficient, Katrisa. You just have to establish that there's a twist in the story, and the book blurb is one way. Reviews may establish it as well.
Would
work for the task:Read a book that is about the Civil War in the US?
MPG has been mentioned as Civil War but this is also a Mystery.
Thanks.
Janice wrote: "As long as Civil War is listed as a mpg, you're fine. I can also be a mystery."Thanks, Janice. Right now, Book Main Page shows this as MPG - Civil War. I plan to read this for Badge 1. Request you to please verify this and allow this to be read for this task. I read in one of the posts to get the verification for books listed in the bottom rows for a particular MPG. I am not getting the older version of the Book Main Page and new version is quite a bit confusing and am not able to find how may people have voted for a particular MPG. Hence, the request. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.
It's verified, Viji. When you read the book and report it, please state that it was verified on Dec 21st.

I might be overthinking this or maybe it's a language thing.6. Eight letters: Unmarried guy
Read a book where a significant character is a bachelor or bachelorette. The character must remain unmarried through the entire book.
I get the unmarried bit, but how about being in a relationship? To me bachelor means being single, but I also never get bachelor parties before a marriage because most of the time you haven't been a bachelor for years anyway.
Do I need a book with a single MC? And is it okay if they would end up in a relationship somewhere in the book as long as they don't marry?
For ship with sails would
work? I know most of the cover is the ocean, but I feel like the ship is still the focus because of the lighting
Janice - the link to Symbolism Books worked fine on my laptop. I believe my iPod was picking up a space at the front of the link. The links all worked on my laptop when I clicked on them. I just wanted to let you know.
Read a book with has a knife on the cover.Janice, would you accept
?I'm not sure if it is a knife of a sword.

I'm not sure either. I don't think you'll have trouble finding a better choice.

Okay, then I'm just reading this one became so many 9f my GR friend gave it 5 stars 😛

Yes."
Thanks, Janice.
Re: Task 6I finished The Locked Room which features Dr. Ruth Galloway as the main character. She is an unmarried mother (and has been for the past 11 books, I think), so I hope it is okay to categorize her as a "bachelorette" for this challenge?
Task: Read a book with a ship on the cover that is flying its sailsWould the ship with the flying sail prominent enough to fit this task in the cover of
?Thanks.
Task: Read a book where there are significant plot twists, as explained in the book blurbI hope The Affair of the Mysterious Letter would fit this task. I plan to read this for another task in Puzzle 8. If it does not work out for that task, I could use this for this task, if approved.
The synopsis on GR Book Main page states:
"In this charming, witty, and weird fantasy novel, Alexis Hall pays homage to Sherlock Holmes with a new twist on those renowned characters."
Thanks.

Read the book and decide where it fits the best. You'll have a better idea after you've read it. If it doesn't fit anyway, you've at least had the joy of reading a book just for the enjoyment.
I hope The Affair of the Mysterious Letter would fit this task. I plan to read this for an..."Viji - Before you read it, I just want to point out that a plot twist and a twist on characters are two different things. The task requires "significant plot twists, as explained in the book blurb." So, you should be able to tell that your book will have twists in the plot by reading the blurb.

Thanks, Kristie, for the clarification. It is really helpful.

Thanks, Janice. It reminds me that I have been reading books only for challenges in the past few years! This is mainly because I have little time left for reading as needlework takes up most of my time and I try to fit my books to the tasks for the various challenges.
I think this year onwards I will start reading a few books just for enjoyment.
Janice wrote: "Viji wrote: "Task: Read a book with a ship on the cover that is flying its sailsWould the ship with the flying sail prominent enough to fit this task in the cover of [bookcover:Discerning Grace|5..."
Thanks, Janice.
I understand that Viji. I always want my books to fit somewhere too. But, if you really want to read it, then read it anyway. :)
And there's no need to make every book work for the challenge. If you just read 12 you'll get a badge, and that takes the pressure off :)
Janice wrote: "Have you tried audiobooks Viji? That way you can read and embroider at the same time."The whole reason I started audiobooks was because I wanted to read and crochet at the same time. Now I pretty much listen to books whenever I am not teaching
Hi Janice, I started reading In Sunshine or in Shadow: How Boxing Brought Hope in the Troubles and as I am reading it there's a lot of plot twists and changes because of bombing and war in 1970's in Northern Ireland. do you think it fits task 7?
Janice wrote: "Does the book blurb mention twists? That is part of the criteria."Ah right, okay Janice. It doesn't mention the word twist in the book blurb.
