I'll start on it later this week I hope, currently finishing The Science Fiction Hall of Fame, Volume One, 1929-1964
This was the first book I read in 2021, and I just started re-reading Uprooted, so I won't be re-reading this one. However, I will say that I enjoyed this book a lot.
Started it today, an interesting premise, first I thought it was just like Sea of Rust, (view spoiler) but later story reminded me of C.M. Kornbluth's story from the anthology I mentioned above, where:
After twenty generations of shilly-shallying and “we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it,” genus homo had bred itself into an impasse. Dogged biometricians had pointed out with irrefutable logic that mental subnormals were outbreeding mental normals and supernormals, and that the process was occurring on an exponential curve. Every fact that could be mustered in the argument proved the biometricians’ case, and led inevitably to the conclusion that genus homo was going to wind up in a preposterous jam quite soon. If you think that had any effect or breeding practices, you do not know genus homo.

It is a short one (all our books this month are) so you may read it quite quickly. And it is a good read!

Yes, me too. I plan to check more by the author, I've never before read anything by him

I'm going to reread it at a future date. I had to rush through the last half too quickly as it was due back at the library and had 2 people on the wait list.

Ah, yes, my husband loved The Queen's Gambit. I guess I should watch it. I forgot all about it. Thanks!

I read that a long time ago, intrigued as a fan of David Bowie, who played Newton in the 1976 movie. I'd just come off seeing Bowie for the first time as the Thin White Duke on the Station to Station tour.
I found out later he wrote the famous Paul Newman movie The Hustler and its Tom Cruise sequel The Color of Money, plus The Queen's Gambit. He reminds me a little of Ira Levin in that he's relatively unknown, but his works are well known. I wish he'd written more novels, but he wrote more short stories.
