For some people yes it is for others not so much. I never had a problem with it but I know that a lot of people do.
I must ask, have you ever read the book French Toast a memoir? It's about an American woman who falls in love with a Frenchman and starts her life in France. She talks about the differences between the cultures (although she grew up in Idaho Or something so that's not a complete view of the American culture and she lives in Paris which is also not a complete view of the whole of France). If you do end up reading it I would love to hear your feedback if you feel her perspective of her husband's culture is right. I know obviously she's an American so some things will probably be different from both your view points but was just really curious.
