It was one of my fav books as a child too! I've read it so many times! I'm not sure I want to reread it during December though.

Also, random question, but how cone and you rated it 2 stars although it is one of your favorite books? After seeing your comment here, I checked out if you have written a review and I was very surprised to see this low rating. Was it because of the writing style?

Willow Anne | 1604 comments Aww im so happy to find another alice lover! I wish that i had read it as a child, its the perfect kids book<33

Ok but thank you so much for mentioning the rating bc it was totally an accident! Theres kind of a story, see i read this abridged version when i was little and didnt even finish bc i thought it was really boring (it was like abridged for little kids so it was super basic). But i didnt know it was abridged so i just thought i didnt like this book at all. But then earlier this year i read the actual version for the first time and absolutely loved it and i had totally forgot about this rating, so thanks for bringing it up! And the version that i read is a combo of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, so i wrote a review under that edition. Heres a link if you wanted to read it :)

Oh, I understand! There are some abridged books I read as a child and didn't like them either, and now you made me wonder if I would like the original edition in case I read it now.. Abridgement is not necessarily bad, since some scenes might be too violent or tough for children, but I think it is overdone sometimes. Like, you can't turn an 800 pages book to 150 pages just to make it readable for younger audiences. They can always read the full version once they grow up. After a point, it's not really the same book (maybe I'm a bit dramatic, but that's how I feel)

And thanks for sharing your review! I'll certainly read it :)

Willow Anne | 1604 comments Yeah ive been trying to go back and read the unabridged versions of books i didnt like when i was younger, and for some ive found that i like them now even tho i didnt back then! And i totally agree, abridged books can be good and helpful, especially for younger kids, but i dont like when they completely change the wording to dumb it down and simplify everything except the basic plot. I dont think its dramatic, youre right, its essentially not the same book at that point haha

Dreamer | 5128 comments I'm glad to find someone who agrees. I'm tired of seeing people reading abridged books just because "the original is huge!". I mean, there's a reason it is huge!
