I picked Woods as my keyword for March and read The Woods by Harlan Coben. It was a great thriller. I've really enjoyed all the Harlan Coben books I've read!
Challenge complete. I read In the Woods by Tana French and tore through the book in four days. This was a new author for me and I will definitely be picking up the next book in this series. Strong but flawed characters, wonderful use of language in parts, nice bits of humor tucked in, and a chilling murder mystery or two. This is one of my favorite books so far this year.
Imaginary Friend - Stephen Chboskyhttps://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...
Okay….so. This book. Shit happens, and then just….KEEPS ON HAPPENING. I’ve never read a book that’s been able to successfully keep the tension level up for so long. At one point, about halfway through, I thought “How am I only 50% done? What else could possibly happen???”
I know there was a fair bit of chatter going on about this book when it was first published, but I somehow managed to not read a single spoiler - so I 100% stubbed my toe on the plot twist when it suddenly came along.
The only negative thing I have to say is that the ending did drag on a bit. I think it maybe could have ended a good 25-50 pages before it finally did. Having said that, as a whole, I enjoyed this book immensely, and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.
I read Excuse me while I ugly cry for this month, it's a YA novel about so much more than a teenage romance. It deals with prejudice, racism and the impact of the colour of your skin. I learned a lot while reading it, and yeah, the romance bit is fun.
Finished 6 Crimson Crows(2 words in 1 title!).It was a really fun fantasy.I loved the magic in it and how Chinese culture is incorporated in the book.I'd highly recommend it.
Just finished listening to the audio book Run Rose Run by Dolly Parton and James Patterson. It was a cute book about an up and coming country star with a little bit of mystery to it. Liked listening to the audio version since Dolly helped narrate.
I just finished In A Cottage In A Wood by Cass Green. Wow, what a psychological thriller. I give it 5 stars.
I read If You Go Down To The Woods by Seth C. Adams. It was a fast read for me and reminded me of the Standing Alone Era...no cell phones, kids gone all day outside playing, the bully and his friends. *spoiler alert* the dog makes it :)
Challenge Complete!Word: Woods
Book: In the Woods by Tana French
A good mystery within a mystery, complex characters and enough twists to be wholly satisfying. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Wanna read Six Crimson Cranes! It's been on my list for a while. I haven't gotten around to it yet, but it's my plan
Completed challenge from my TBR stacks. I read “The FRIEND” by Sigrid Nunez which I really enjoyed. It’s very deserving of its National Book Award.
I was really struggling with this month's keywords, I tried about four books before I finally downloaded Mountains Beyond Mountains: The Quest of Dr. Paul Farmer, a Man Who Would Cure the World from my library. I couldn't be more delighted that I stumbled upon this book! The author made me want to know more about Dr. Farmer and read some of his books. (I have The Uses of Haiti on hold with my library) and have a better understanding of the history of Haiti. My understanding of poverty and its impact on health is so much more developed and Dr. Farmer is an amazing human who never lets the problems become insurmountable. This book should be a must-read for everyone considering a job in medicine.
I just finished Six Crimson Cranes - double words. I really enjoyed it. It was a good fantasy book. I will prob read the sequel just to finish the story.
Challenge CompleteTitle: The Crimson Cord: Rahab's Story
Word: crimson
Author: Jill Eileen Smith
Another historical fiction-type book. I loved the different perspective on Rahab possibly being forced into prostitution, not choosing the "career" by choice. A good read.
I read Four Friends by Robyn Carr and just finished in the last few minutes of the month :) It was the first book of hers I have read, but it will not be the last! I loved, loved, loved it! It's about 4 friends (duh! lol) that are all trying to juggle family, carrers, friends, etc, just life in general. It really pulled me in and was so much like real life, you feel like you are actually there, going through what they are going through. I highly recommend.
I ended March by choosing a second word “crimson” I listened to the Crimson Lae series by Candice Fox. I admit I was attracted to this series because I heard that it has also been made into a tv show.
I'm new to this group but was following the monthly challenge:In March I read the following (with the initials of the author):
-Lady in Waiting by SM
-Six Crimson Cranes by EL
-A Friend of the Family by LJ
