John Warner (jwarner6comcastnet) | 108 comments When Detective Renée Ballard files sexual harassment against her supervisor, Lt. Robert Olivas, and the charge was not collaborated by her partner, she finds herself banished to the Hollywood's night shift, also known as the Late Show. A talented crime investigator, she becomes frustrated because any investigation involved in on the late show must be handed over to the day shift to follow-up. However, recently there is two cases she was initially involved in that she can't let go. One involves a the brutal beating of a prostitute and another is the death of young waitress, collateral damage in a mass shooting. Therefore, she continues to work her night shift while also working these cases during the day. However, her investigation of these two cases will place her life in potential jeopardy.

I'm not a fan of crime drama, but the reader does receive a realistic portrayal of contemporary detective work, much of it involving long hours of tedious work. Renée Ballard's character development was realistic of any female detective trying to navigate a traditionally man's world.
