Madison McAuley | 8 comments Hello! I’m still working on my book blurb for my current WIP and this is what I have so far. Any thoughts, input, or critique is welcome!
——-
A long kept secret, a seaside kingdom, and a shocking revelation will change her life.

Amira is no stranger to tragedy, yet few can rival her cheeriness. A young woman now orphaned, she seeks joy in the little things—nature, her friends, and the memories of her late mother. When she gets the opportunity to leave her sleepy village and visit the kingdom’s capital of Kalopsia, her excitement knows no bounds. But even her vivid imagination never thought the adventure would come with a crown…or a father.

King Thorndale’s life has never been the same since his wife left with their baby daughter. He has spent years blaming himself and trying not to collapse under the weight of his duties and his heavy heart. So when Amira is thrust unexpectedly into his life, he’s unsure if it’s a blessing or a curse. Her sunny disposition sheds light on the lingering darkness inside him, but he is one of the few who knows just how much danger she was and may still be in.

But soon, the picturesque scene of ballgowns and paternal bonding is worn down by tedious rules, embarrassing faux pas, critical family members, and an emotional barrier keeping the father Amira’s desperate to know just out of reach. And when a precious item goes missing, she discovers something more nefarious may be afoot. She’s determined to find the answers to save their tentative relationship, but failing may bring it to ruin altogether. Is the ray of hope bright enough to see them through? Or will grief and doubt overshadow it for good?

This is book two in the “Fallen Stars” series and can be read as a stand alone novel. Walking the line of historical fiction and fantasy, this story will take you to a beautiful fictional kingdom where magic spells and dragons are absent, but ballgowns, secret rooms, ocean breezes, family dynamics, and touches of mystery abound. Perfect for readers young and old looking for a clean, wholesome story that will give you all the feels.

Dale Lehman (dalelehman) | 1814 comments In general I like what you have, but it's a bit on the long side (at least I think it is). So let me suggest the following edit. One note: I took a small liberty here, not knowing the story line but making a guess at it. You may have to change it a bit if I got it wrong.

A seaside kingdom. A long-kep secret. A shocking revelation.

No stranger to tragedy, Amira seeks joy in everyday things—nature, friends, memories of her late mother. When she's given the opportunity to leave her sleepy village for the kingdom’s capital of Kalopsia, her excitement knows no bounds. But even her vivid imagination couldn't anticipate Amira gaining a crown…or a father!

In the years since his queen left with his infant daughter, King Thorndale has blamed himself. Now, the combined weight of guilt and responsibility to his realm prevent him from wholeheartedly welcoming Amira back. True, her unbeatable cheer sheds light on his darkness, but he knows all too well the danger that stalks her and how little even a king can do to stop it. When a precious item goes missing, Amira awakens to that threat. She must discover who is behind it, not only to save herself but to keep her tentative relationship with her father from falling into ruin.

Book two in the “Fallen Stars” series, [TITLE] walks the line between historical fiction and fantasy, carrying you into a realm devoid of magic and dragons but overflowing with ballgowns, secret rooms, ocean breezes, and touches of mystery perfect for readers young and old seeking a clean, wholesome story.
