Just finished Scoundrel by Sarah Weinman. Excellent, interesting and fast paced book about Edgar Smith a truly vile human being who had many people hoodwinked.very scary in that he was able to finagle his way out of prison.
I am so excited this topic is back. I start going down a rabbit hole of spooky non-fiction, there is so much to choose from. I want to read all books about spirit photography from the turn of the century, then I think maybe I'll dive into Helter Skelter: The True Story of the Manson Murders, or perhaps 18 Tiny Deaths: The Untold Story of Frances Glessner Lee and the Invention of Modern Forensics, but then there's My Dark Places. It's all too much, my tbr list grows like a leviathan every day.
I read American Predator: The Hunt for the Most Meticulous Serial Killer of the 21st Century last year and I was completely paranoid and jumpy. I consume so much true crime and Israel Keyes' crimes still managed to freak me out. I think this book suffers a little from thinking Keyes is a lot smarter than he was, but still a chilling figure in the world of serial killers.
I'm really enjoying The Black Guy Dies First: Black Horror Cinema from Fodder to Oscar for this one! It's the same author as Horror Noire, so I may have to check that one out after. (And adding lots of movies to my watch list, of course...)

I read Gossip from the Forest: A Search for the Hidden Roots of Our Fairytales and gave it 3 stars.I liked the idea behind this book but with each chapter being about a different topic, some were more interesting to me than others. The nonfiction chapters varied but I did like all of her takes on classic fairy tales.
